The only video that was not muted and overdubbed was of the piano being played (by actor James Duncan) and the young children playing in the front yard. Every other sound was downloaded online or overdubbed at a later time.
In order to get authentic laughs from the two leads, offensive jokes were told between the director and actors for the shots where the boy and the girl laugh in the backyard.
The clip where the camera pans behind the girl as she dances is actually three separate shots all edited together to eliminate the camera from the reflection in the mirror.
During shooting, Nina Gamgort, who played the girl, was very busy. All of her shots were filmed over the course of two days, except one particular shot which was filmed a year earlier for a separate project.
All audio from the "poetry reading" clips was muted and overdubbed.
