Was this written by a bunch of five year olds?
Top_Dawg_Critic9 August 2023
This was dreadful and painful to watch. Unlike most people, I did enjoy the first one as an entertaining turn-your-brain-off one time watch, as it did have a good story, a cohesive story and one that had some great comedy and laughs that followed. So I figured I'd give this one a shot. Huge mistake. This mess was incoherent, convoluted and pointless nonsense that dragged out endlessly with ridiculous infantile writing. The entire sub-plot with the crazy Phoenix chick was cringeworthy and annoyingly bad. Actually, comparing the writing to five year olds is an insult to the five year olds, because they could write something better than this mess. It's a generous 3/10 for the cast that were clearly the only ones that had fun making this to punish the rest of us.

Misleading sequel. feel like they were contractually forced. Even if im anti-woke
destroyerwod9 July 2023
So the first movie was a decent comedy. Not one that sit at the highest spot in my favorite comedies ever but i had fun with it, it had some heart and the "buddy games" made a central point of it.

In this movie, the premise is for some reason they end up in a spring break event where the buddy games started and have to compete once again. But no... its not. This is basically the intro of the movie. The "buddy games" are insignificant to the movie plot. Completely !

The first act was kinda fun, having to deal with the loss of one of their own and it serve a purpose to have them end up were they do end up and the whole reason why they were banned from ever going back. But then the movie switch to some .. i dunno... drug gone wrong trip?

Look, i despise wokeness, i really dislike the extreme left and everything that resort around woke and yes normally i would had find funny them poking fun at how little (if not at all) extreme woke stuff make sense. Even did a little at first.

But in the context of the movie i was just waiting for the plot to continue... for stuff to happen.

In the first movie, Olivia Munn character plays a huge part in the whole thing. Here she is nowhere to be found. Its implied trough one quick line (blink and you will miss it) that Josh Duhamel character is now single? But nothing else !! AT ALL.

The buddy games part of this movie happen super early and have no meaning for the rest of the movie. I said it earlier but i think its worth saying again. Its like Hangover 3 where there is no actual hangover and they taught it would be a good idea. Exept here its actually some weird Hangover related movie and not a Buddy games movie.

The movie dig so deep into non sense stuff that i kept face palming, yes actual face palming... in real life. And im a guy who enjoyed juvenile comedies like those American Pie clones a lot toward the years. My standards are not high.

The main plot, for the little there is, is basically centered around this dead character wich yes was in the first movie, but quite frankly i don't even remember that well. I mean the movie came out in 2019, i enjoyed it, but thats it. It focussed on Olivia Munn and Josh Duhamel and the buddy games were the plot twist putting sticks in their wheels if you get what i mean. They were the main characters.

Going for a buddy party trip movie instead of putting focuss on a relationship is fine, but 90% of the movie felt like weird situations happening one after the other and not making much sense and then suddenly movie just decide that its time to wrap things up and a somwhat unsatisfying wrap up happen. At this point you are so annoyed by everything else you don't care, and story wise you feel no growth whatsoever or progression in any of the characters.

I saw someone mention Grown Up 1 and 2. I understand Adam Sandler comedy is not for everyone and i respect that, but personally i had lots of fun with these 2 and the sequel is a worthy successor of the first movie even if it missed Rob Schneider. There is ways to work around an actor not coming back (for whatever reason) but here it truly felt like some of these guys had some contact obligations or wanted to do a favor to Josh Duhamel and were like "ok fine we will do it" and then some random screenwriter came out with a terrible script to have a movie.

I will finish on saying that i watched this movie in the best of circonstances. Made it one of my few "beer movies" these days , where i drink a few and just want to have a funny good time without thinking too hard. And despise this, it was ridiculous in the wrong way, it made no sense, i kept face palming like wtf am i watching. And ill repeat, the first 20 minutes were enjoyable.

Im being generous giving a 4 there. Because its not badly shot, or badly acted, or have poor special effects. Everything is competent. Its just an unfunny, go nowhere, poor scripte. And ill say it again. No the woke jokes didn't offend me, i love poking fun at wokeness. Its just it has to make sense and be funny !! I didn't care for these woke characters at all in the movie. Either as protagonist or antagonist...

Looks like Jack Ass 9...
frank-liesenborgs5 June 2023
For those unfamiliar with the first Buddy Games, fear not! Prior knowledge is not required to follow the story. What a surprise! The opening scene effectively establishes the central characters, their antagonists, and the high stakes, allowing the adventure to kick off immediately. The editing presents things in a way that assumes no prior knowledge of the games or how they operate and a pop-up scorecard helps you to keep track of each team's position. The initial event ends quickly, leaving plenty of film for more to unfold. After the tragic death of one of their own, Bobfather (played by Josh Duhamel) and the boys steal the urn and embark on a journey to commemorate their friend's life at the place where the Buddy Games first began. However, their plans go awry when they find themselves caught in the chaos of spring break. It's doubtful whether the central cast of Duhamel, Bakkedahl, Dillon, Swardson, and Roday Rodriguez are real-life buddies, but their exceptional chemistry suggests they might be. JD ensures that everyone looks their best, even in humiliating moments for their characters. This movie reminded me of the Jack Ass movies, with their crude and juvenile humor and the constant one-upmanship in pulling off outrageous stunts. If you enjoy that type of pranks, there's nothing wrong with that. Unlike the first film, Josh did not write this one; he "only" directed and starred in it. Whether that's a good thing or not is subjective. Overall, "Buddy Games: Spring Awakening" is a watchable film that offers some entertainment value.

I want 1 hour & 35 minutes of my life back
If I had to describe that film, I would tell people to imagine you have a big ball of hair. Now roll it in poop. Then set fire to it. Breathe it in. Taste the smoke. Savour it... that's Buddy Games 2.

It is some of the poorest/laziest writing of a script, that gets over worked & stretched thin into an abomination. Dax Shepard took the wise choice, by not featuring. James Roday Rodriguez, Nick Swardson, and Jensen Ackles accepted roles, but you could remove them from the film and the plot of the film wouldn't suffer.

It stopped being about the characters, and more about a succession of ever increasingly ridiculous situations, to the point where it stopped being mediocre & became unenjoyable... and that was about halfway into the film.

My recommendation is that you watch Grown Ups 1& 2 instead, and that the production company hide all copies of the DVD in the same landfill as 'ET the Extraterrestrial' for the Atari 2600.

Pick something else
elysedc4 November 2023
Maybe, like me, you're on a plane and looking for something vaguely funny to put on in the background that you won't have to pay too much attention to. Pick something else. Honestly, I slept through almost half of this movie and it's STILL the worst movie I've ever seen. I mean this genuinely. I've seen some terrible (unwatchable!) student films, I actively like all of the main cast, and despite this, BuddyGames: Spring Awakening still takes the top spot for "worst ever."

The story was...passable. The acting was...not good. It honestly takes a lot to make me actively dislike a movies - a lot of people work on it! Even the bad ones are pretty good! And this one just isn't. If you're on a plane, I hope you have wifi and you see this.

I'm trying to save you

If you come across the second Buddy Games movie and think to yourself, like I did... "Sure. Let's give it a go. The first one wasn't the worst movie I've ever seen." Don't. Just don't! Take that hour and a half and stare at a wall. Watch paint dry. Do literally anything else.

You're welcome in advance.

Here's the plot: The Bobfather and his friends steal an urn to honor their deceased friend, Durfy, at the place where the Buddy Games began.

But, their plans take an unexpected turn as they find themselves in the chaos of spring break. As they attempt to pay tribute to their lost friend, they realize their old-school partying skills can't keep up with the wild ways of today's generation.

An absolute mess
alatlantic15 September 2023
While I wasn't the biggest fan of the original either, it was at least an entertaining movie with a few funny parts. This one, however, was not.

The writing was very poor. The story had no real sense of direction that I could figure out, it just kind of meandered its way through random scenarios. The opening felt like a dream sequence because of how absurd it got, careful never to actually cross the line into the realm of humor though.

I was confused by the random new age 'woke' stuff in the middle, and couldn't figure out if the movie was trying to advocate for or against it, but seemed to somehow do both? Or maybe neither? Again, careful not to cross into anywhere resembling humor.

In the end, I just have to wonder why this movie was even made. It's dry, directionless, and humorless. The best actor goes to Dax Shepard, for having the good sense to avoid this pile altogether.

Why? Don't waste your time!
towe-516204 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The first Buddy Games had me laughing so hard I cried! This one was so bad I almost cried. The original was better than the Hangover but this one is so bad it's not funny, has no plot and makes no sense. What were they thinking these guys are all great actors and surely they could of came up with something funnier than cults, drugs, licking toads and nothing but gay jokes. Josh & Co. Should have taken their time and came up with stuff better than the first movie which was great! This one leaves you scratching your head and wondering if you're in an alternate universe where this is as funny as comedy gets! No Dax or Olivia and just some really lame stuff makes this pathetic attempt a pure waste of time and talent!

It's fun
josephmpapp18 August 2023
This is filmed better than the first. The editing is better and the story had a better plot. Basically, the guys attend a funeral, steal the urn, end up a spring break, get kidnapped by a cult, and seek out a waitress from their dead friend's past.

It makes fun of old men and crazy woke people.

If you watched the first and enjoyed yourself, you know what to expect. These are old guys acting like teenagers and the comedy is based on the crazy situations they put themselves Into.

It's cartoonish, Lude, goofy, gross, and silly. This isn't high art. It's fart jokes, drugs, alcohol, and slapstick humor. I enjoyed it.

This movie had Hangover vibes at times lol! The hilarious cast find themselves in all kinds of crazy situations , and have to "put up, or shut up"! It's a great BRO movies that you will for sure get some belly laughs from! The team of buddies set out on a hilarious adventure to honor one of their own. After stealing the remains of of their best friend, the buddies are chased by a crazy family member across the country. After a wild ride, the boys end up right where they should be! A heartfelt ending to say the least! Is anyone winning on Oscar night?,.... Of course not,..... but you should still check this one out. Hilarious movie! I'd like to see a third to round out the trilogy!!

Good Fun
jbricketts8 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I'm not sure if I enjoyed this one more than the first one but this it still made me laugh. Its just entertaining. Which is more than I can say for a lot of movies nowadays. I thought the scene where the cult physically assaulted the guys until they submitted to their ideology was especially funny. Very meta and accurate depiction of the real w0ke cult. "Believe what we believe or we'll hurt you". Hilarious. I wished Roday had played a bigger role, and I missed Dax. With so much bloated trash out there these days this really did well. It's not 2 hours plus like so much junk they put out lately. Just good old-fashioned fun that actually makes you laugh.

An absolute trash sequel....
PerryAtTheMovies22 January 2024
2.7/10 (NOT Recommended)

Absolutely a waste of time and much worse than the first film. In fact I would chalk this up as being one of the worst films I've ever watched. The movie starts off with some enjoyment and tiny bit of laughter, moves to the spring break aspect, but then the story quickly deviates away from the whole spring break aspect. There's not much to justify this being a "Buddy Games" sequel other than the brief moment the words are spoken. It's not really all that funny. The "issues" of the film are annoying in real life and even more annoying here. The acting is subpar and the outcome is pretty much what I'd like to do after wasting 90 minutes of my life.

Basically the first one is at least funny and somewhat exciting. This one is worse than a hoarders house full of trash. Skip this one at all costs and go watch a "Jackass" film because you'll at least get a chuckle there.

That's all for now. Thank you for taking the time to read my review. Until next time.... Enjoy the show!

Fun Movie
sldc-057464 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Watched this morning. Liked the movie. Fun, a bit raunchy but not offensive. Guys going on a trip to bring their friend to a final resting place, The funeral scene was really something when each one gave their thoughts and family responded. The urn saw a lot of action. It was like watching a football game!

It was very physical, and they worked really hard. The outdoor party was reminiscent of parties back in the day where the "candy" got you high!

There were sad moments ,fun moments and "oh no" moments. Looked like a fun movie to make. Loved the scenery in the different areas. I highly recommend the film for 90 minutes of fun! I may see it again! Good job Josh and congrats to Axl too!

An absolute knee slapper!

Hilarious film with a solid narrative to bring it all together. This film brings the party to wherever you are. Kick back, crack a cold one, and watch the talented cast treat each other as really good "buddy's". Hilarious film with a solid narrative to bring it all together. A decent movie
sergiomazivereal3 January 2024
I Wasn't expecting much from this sequel, unfortunately I was mislead by some of the reviews, still I gave the movie a chance, and surprisingly it is a funny movie with a lot of terminologies that you won't find in other movies with this genre. As for the characters, they were overall well played and displayed a synchrony that were really involved throughout the entire movie. If it is expected to come another sequel, I would definitely recommend people to watch it as it'll definitely be a decent movie. As for Josh the director, Id say that he did a Great job because the acting was good enough for this genre!
