When widowed artist Jess and sports-loving bartender Danny go on a first date at a hockey game, they are embarrassed to find themselves on the kiss cam. But their first kiss proves to be magical in more ways than one, as their team scores a game-winning goal directly after. Danny Carmody Jr. devoted his life to running the Chicago bar that is names, like him, after his father, who starred in the hockey team that since then generally collects losses, yet his patrons remained die-hard fans. He flirts with widowed would be-painter Jess Wolfe, whose uninspired failure to shine or sell is about to get her dumped from her own family's arts foundation. When Danny takes her along to a game, the team finally wins again, and fan superstition links that to them being on kiss camera.
