The first cartoon shown, Fleischer Studios' Shiver Me Timbers! (1934), finds Popeye, Olive and Wimpy aboard a scary ghost ship. It comes from 13 episodes into the Popeye cartoon series, that's including Popeye the Sailor (1933), even though that cartoon is actually billed as a Betty Boop cartoon.
The second cartoon in this episode, Alona on the Sarong Seas (1942), is the second Popeye cartoon to come out of Famous Studios. Being from 1942, this is yet another in a series of cartoons addressing Popeye's patronage by showing his involvement with the Armed Forces, mostly the Navy of course. Although, this one was less blatant than others.
The last cartoon Insect to Injury (1956), was made a good 14 years after the second one shown and features Popeye getting a new house and a major problem. With a little over a handful left to make, Famous Studio presented this episode featuring Popeye in battle with a non-human or animal counterpart and it's got a great score from composer Winston Sharples that sounds similar to Dragnet (1951).
