At the time of the 1990 Commonwealth Games drummers from Commonwealth countries in Africa, Vanuatu, Polynesia, the West Indies, NewGuinea and Australasia gathered for a Festival of Drumming. In a week of workshops they learn together and mount a climaxing public performance. They explain the cultural context of drumming in each of their countries.—John Kirk
