One of the funniest films of 2014 is finally coming to North America, as the New Zealand vampire mockumentary What We Do in the Shadows is getting a limited theatrical release this Friday. The long-in-development comedy from Flight of the Conchords’ Jemaine Clement is a labor of love that was well worth the wait: despite vampires being yesterday’s news, no movie at 2014’s Toronto International Film Festival could match What We Do in the Shadows for pure hilarity, thanks to its dry and creative vision of undead life in the modern day.
While at the festival back in the Fall, we caught up with Clement (who co-stars, co-wrote, and co-directed the film with Taika Waititi), and his newcomer co-star, Stu Rutherford, a former It worker who got involved in the project through most unusual circumstances. We chatted with the guys about the long road What We Do in the Shadows took from conception to release,...

The Coen brothers' movies are not, for the most part, overflowing with sentiment. Black humor, existential mysteries, endlessly quotable dialogue? Sure. Unabashed emotion? Shut the fuck up, Donny. But they've learned to lace their films with deft musical moments that do that cathartic work for them. Their new movie, Inside Llewyn Davis (out December 6th), is their deepest musical dive since 2000's O Brother, Where Art Thou? The title character is an emotionally blocked, career-stymied folk singer (played by Oscar Isaac) in early-Sixties Greenwich Village, and the film is packed with performances.

Adam Lambert is set to headline a fundraiser for marriage equality in Maryland, though the concert is being held at the 9:30 Club in D.C. I don't know if the 9:30 Club is still in the same building it was when I used to live in D.C., but it wasn't a huge venue, so get your tickets fast for the September 25th event.
In case you were wondering, scientists have grown functional penises for rabbits in vats and attached them. The aim of the research is helping wounded soldiers, but maybe some day you'll be able to order a new penis in the size you want, and have it transplanted in place of what you were born with.
Disney is looking at a Brett Ratner produced remake of The Flamingo Kid. In this age of the haves and the have-nots, it could be a story that works, but...

Note: Do not read on if you have not seen Episode 6 of Lifetime's "Project Runway All Stars."
Sometimes you can just feel the drama coming. You know what I mean? Like snow, you can almost smell it inching nearer. And this season of "Project Runway All Stars" has been relatively sedate, so I say: Bring. It. On.
This week's episode begins with the designers seated companionably around a table at their hotel suite: "When I first got here I thought Kenley was obnoxious and annoying," confesses Mondo. "But I love to push her buttons."
Could it be? Should it be? Dare we imagine this is ... foreshadowing?
On the runway, Angela Lindvall is holding eight "getaway" bags, one for each designer. "Quite the bag lady," quips Jerell, who is fast becoming my favorite talking head.
Michael wishes her next line was, "Pack your bags! We're going to Paris." No such luck.
