one of my favorite series returns
nerrdrage28 January 2024
I'm usually not into cop shows but the combination of the setting (the 70s, just distant enough to be nostalgic), the location (Navaho reservation, including the gorgeous Monument Valley) and the actors/characters has got me hooked.

A big factor is the way they weave in supernatural/mythic elements. Not like the X-Files, having Bigfoot show up in a scene, but with a deft hand, just like they did last season. They understand the concept, Less Is More.

And it looks like they'll be utilizing the hippy-dippy trends of the 1970s, where white people were horning in on Native American religious customs because it was hip, cool and fun.

Brilliant Love it

Been waiting for this to come back, here in Australia. Loved Season One, absolutely love the beginning of Season Two. Both Zahn and Kiowa are just gorgeous men, and Jessica is beautiful, all are great actors.

I read every book by Tony Hillerman, I bought a few every time we went to the USA, my favourite place. We have visited every place in the book and in the series. Miss it so much when I'm here in Aussie, it's not as beautiful as your country. The stories are great, and wonderful to follow. Love how it is mostly all Native American actors. Hopefully we keep getting more series, fingers crossed for many more <3.

Good episode ruined by BAD DIRECTION in final scenes
mnoble1-227 July 2023
Overall, this is an excellent series. Hopefully the poor direction/editing/producing in the final scenes of this first season 2 episode will not become common place.

I blame the director in this case - however - the problem could be editing - either way - the producers are also at fault for not rectifying the issue.

In the final scenes when Leaphorn retrieves his rifle, he had ample opportunity to pull out the burning rag. (made this description purposely vague to avoid spoilers)

This scene was totally bogus, contrived, and poorly directed -- poorly edited.

It could have been easily fixed with minor changes to character actions or changes in action timing.

Yet, the director/editor/producers chose to leave the flaws in place, ruining what was otherwise a good episode.
