A tense, exciting start.

A gunman arrives at the main entrance of a hospital with a gunshot victim, a child. Doctor Lucinda Edwards intercedes, then has to decide who needs her care, unfortunately someone she deems less worthy, dies.

I now chuckle how anyone and anything that has a Line of Duty connection gets a mention, let's be clear, this has pretty much zero relation to it, other than dramatic intensity, this seems to be a medical drama.

Dramatic, tense, fast paced and intriguing, I thought this was a fine first episode, it really had grabbed my attention. Recent medical drama Maternal flopped, axed after just one series, and I understand why, this was altogether much better viewing.

I think this is going to develop into something really good, a few questions, but the main one I want to know, is why was Lucinda off sick.

Very well acted, very well produced, I think this one's a winner.

8/10.

Warning: Spoilers
Wow it had me coming back to understand what was said and done.. I went back to see and blondie there did not give the correct instructions.. She told jr doctor to give 800mg or mcg whatever UNTIL she improved or got better.. she didn't specify that the doctor needed to repeat when or if necessary...

wait.. but then the doc investigators looking over the case, questioning blondies decision to leave the serious overdose.. but how about the old nurse that kept second guessing blondies decisions?

In the begining, lucinda was going to stick with the overdose until the nurse said something like "are you going to prioritize a junkie over a child".. not only was the nurse completely out of line but showed that lucinda isnt really a leader..

but in the end, it doesnt matter.. if the nurse second guesses you or try to talk you out on doing something or the dumb younger doc didnt understand your instructions..

you are to blame..

you are the leader.

Episode 1

If there are some fairly un-nuanced undertones in the first episode of Malpractice. It is that he who shouts the loudest gets things done. If you are a junkie black woman, you are disposable.

An armed gunman walks into A&E with an injured child. Dr Lucinda Edwards (Niamh Algar) abandons her junkie patient Edith Owusu to go all gung ho to talk to the gunman.

Once he is out of the way, she decides to operate on the child. Leaving Edith in the hands of an inexperienced and out of her depth junior doctor. The patient dies.

However Edith has a father who can also shout the loudest. Sir Anthony Owusu demands an explanation regarding her daughter's death.

Now Dr Lucinda Edwards has to explain her decision making on that fateful night. There is already an air of being thrown to the wolves by her superiors.

The production company behind Malpractice also made Bodies and Cardiac Arrest. There is nothing to suggest Malpractice is in that league based on the first episode.

What looks like a series of a NHS under crises, there was a shortage of beds to treat both patients. It takes a turn as Dr Edwards as her own dark personal issues. She is on drugs.

Her dealer suddenly getting run over did look like lazy plotting.
