48 hours earlier...In the courtroom from the previous episode the Judge has reduced Curtis's bail and everyone begins exiting. Curtis gives Jo a smirk. Jo is walking outside the courthouse and looks across the street and sees Frank Waters, the CSI she worked with in DC who made the mistake that got Curtis off years ago. Serena Matthews approaches Jo crying and asking what went wrong. When Jo looks back across the street, Frank is gone. Serena is now joined by Serena's father, Senator Kirk Matthews who is extremely angry at Jo for the outcome of this pre-trial. Flashback 3 years ago...Jo and Frank arrive at the Senator's house and he tells them his daughter was raped.
Present...Jo is in the lab unsealing a box of evidence. Mac reminds her she can't be doing what she's doing since it's Lindsay's case. Jo tells Mac it's personal and no one knows this better than her. Mac agrees to have her go over the DC rape cases so as not to interfere with these rape cases as they are Lindsay's.
Flack is questioning Ali about the GHB dosage she told them. She threatens to not testify anymore after accusations. Flack tells her the DA can force her to testify so she will have to testify regardless.
Danny and Jo are going over the DC rape cases. We get another Flashback...Serena's interview regarding her rape. Jo is photographing all of Serena's wounds on her body. Serena is clearly traumatized. Serena says she is embarrassed because she was drinking, but before she can finish Jo reassures her it wasn't her fault. Serena tells Jo she can identify the rapist. Back to the present, Lindsay comes to the conclusion Ali was lying about her wounds being self-inflicted, therefore she lied about everything.
Jo and Frank are at a café having a breakfast. Frank brings up the firing from years ago. He talks about coming to the courthouse earlier and seeing Curtis's face again. He wants Jo to forget his mistake and to move on. Jo gets up and leaves.
Call comes in saying there is a homicide in the park. It's Ali Rand. On the scene, Lindsay picks some evidence from Ali's coat. She surmises cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head. Don finds a big rock with blood on it.
Quick flashback of the courtroom when Curtis was found not guilty years ago. Present day, they have brought in Curtis for questioning as he is the likely suspect in Ali's death. Mac comes out of the room and says to Jo that Curtis will not talk to him and will only talk to Jo. Jo goes into the room and begins recording the session. Curtis admits he did sleep with Ali but he did not rape her. He turns the interview on her asking for Jo's alibi during Ali's death. He accuses her of having more motive for killing Ali than him. He then gets up and leaves.
Sid begins washing and cleaning Ali for autopsy. As he is combing/washing her hair he finds a small red object in her. Lindsay comes in asking Sid about self-inflicting wounds and if Ali could have self-inflicted her wounds herself. Sid says absolutely not. Lindsay thinks there was an accomplice. Sid tells Lindsay the red object he found was likely part of the object that killed her.
Mac walks in to Adam finishing his analysis of the coat evidence that Lindsay finds. He says it's shark skin. He says it's used for pill coatings to extend pill life. Jo remembers Frank had told her at the café that he was working with Rothman Laboratories. He's the connection.
They descend on his apartment. Inside he isn't there but a wall has all pictures and notes of Curtis. Jo receives a call from Frank. He sounds remorseful and says he wish he can go back and undue the mistake he did. He says it was his fault and he wanted Curtis to go away. Jo looks out the window and sees Frank on his phone as he walks into the street in front of a bus and kills himself.
Analyzing the apartment, Sheldon comes to the conclusion the chemicals in the kitchen are used to make GHB. Mac, Sheldon, and Messer believe Frank was working with Ali to frame and set up Curtis. As they discuss this, they play out is the scene at the park. Frank is confronting Ali about staying quiet about everything. Flashback 2 years ago...Frank enters Jo's office and she reveals his mistake to him in the Curtis case. He admits the mistake but doesn't want her to reveal it or Curtis will go free, but she says she has to.
Present...In the autopsy room Sid and Jo are looking down at Frank's body. Jo says how could she have misjudged a person. Sid tells her Frank didn't kill Ali based on what he finds on Frank's fingertips and other evidence.
Sheldon shows Mac Frank's broken cell phone and how he extracted a recorded phone call between Frank and Ali. In the recorded call Frank tells Ali about using proper about of GHB. Based on the recording Mac surmises that Frank wasn't involved in the frameup. Frank was only involved with following and tracking Curtis's moves and what he did. Based on this data, Messer finds a hair from one of the photos that Frank had taken of Curtis's movements.
Mac comes in on Lindsay testing. Lindsay determines the red item in Ali's hair is pink ivory, which is very rare. She determines it is used in knob carries. She is now whacking dummy heads with a bunch of knob carries to see if she can reproduce the head wound like on Ali's head. Mac knows who has a red knob.
Mac arrives at Senator Matthew's residence. Mac states he is there out of respect. Mac tells the Senator he remembered the Senator's umbrella with the fancy red knob handle. Mac tells the Senator how he went on high profile trips to certain locations and how Ali also went to those locations. Mac accuses the Senator of paying Ali to frame Curtis. He denies it vehemently, but then finally admits to Mac it's true. He recounts at the hotel he had Ali drink GHB, then he hit her to cause the wounds, all to make it look like Curtis had raped her. In the park, after the pre-trial, she panicked over it all. As she was walking away the Senator became angry and frantic. He hit her with his umbrella. As she was on the ground getting up he grabbed the big rock in his hand and hit her again for the final blow killing her. He says to Mac he was desperate. The camera turns to show Serena looking out her room listening to the whole conversation looking sad, distraught and crying.
At the police station, Jo meets Amanda Taylor, whom she called to come in. They sit down and Jo asks Amanda what happened with Curtis 3 weeks ago. Amanda tells Jo that night she blacked out. The next morning she woke up naked and her wrists red. It's now revealed the hair that Messer found had been traced back to Amanda. That's how they found her. Amanda tells Jo she still has the clothes and wine glass from that night. Jo asks if she can have them.
At the apartment, Amanda tells Jo she is moving out. She goes and gets a wine glass in a zip lock bag. She then goes into her bedroom to get the clothes. While she is there, Jo is talking and asking her questions but Amanda doesn't answer. Jo walks in the room and see Amanda's legs on the floor. Jo is hit hard by Curtis and falls to the ground. The scene is now from the very beginning.
Curtis drags Amanda. He takes Jo's gun, takes out the magazine and puts the gun on the coffee table. He then starts to flick out the bullets one by one directly at Jo on the floor. Curtis then sits down and begins taunting Jo. She begins moving to grab the gun. He gets up and she gets the gun. He thinks the gun is empty. She reminds him the most common gun accident is people leaving the bullet in the chamber, which Curtis has. He loses his smirk and Jo shoots him in the chest. Curtis begins to get up but Jo is already putting another bullet in the chamber. She shoots Curtis in the chest a final time killing him.
Ambulances and police are at the scene. Jo looks and smiles softly at Serena knowing the Curtis is finally dead. Mac is comforting Jo, end credits...
