When Julie comes home from getting her hair done, it's done up. When she walks into the party her hair is down.
During the state cross country meet, the runners are running during the late afternoon without a cloud in the sky. At the end of the race, the sun is no longer visible and clouds cover the entire sky.
The film shows White's wife and children as depressed by having to move to McFarland. In fact, the White family wanted to live in a small town.
The 1987 State Meet was (and still is) held at Woodward Park in Fresno.

In the Palo Alto Invitational, in a rear view, the race official is shown holding a starter's pistol behind his back. Because it is missing the cylinder, the starter's pistol could not fire or even hold blanks.
When Thomas gives Julie the bracelet at her quinceanera, on a close up of the bracelet it shows it just sitting in the box without any padding often used in jewelry boxes. However, when he picks it up from the box to put it on her, you can see it get briefly stuck to some cotton padding.
A raven is seen flying and makes an eagle's call.
The film shows White being forced to relocate to McFarland after he is fired from a football coaching job. In fact, the White family moved to McFarland in 1964, 16 years before White started the cross country team.
The mother takes the picture of the team with a digital camera not available in 1987.
The Pyrex Easy Grab dish that Mrs. Diaz uses to serve her enchiladas was not introduced until 2010, 23 years later.
The school bus that the team uses has amber lights which weren't required on California school buses until 1992.
