Candidate for the best Spanish series of the entire year
david_alven3 March 2024
Thriller, intrigue and more thriller, I love it. Although the bar was very high thanks to the magnificent book, the series hooks you more and more as the chapters go by and for that reason alone, if you like intrigue, it is worth watching, so if you have not read the book yet, take advantage and Watch the series before because you will probably like it more. Regarding the main actors, I have read many different opinions but my opinion is that they fit perfectly and together they are even better. I congratulate you Juan Gómez-Jurado for wanting to make a series of one of your books, I hope it is the first of many and I encourage other writers to do the same because very good series would come out.

No cuentes el final
jav_ant-993254 March 2024
Its Amazing! I have seen it all in one go and it is a perfect adaptation of the book. Tension, intrigue, humor... everything necessary to make the series enjoyable. The actors do a great job, and have managed to capture their characters perfectly. The production of the series is also noteworthy, being one of the most ambitious in the author's country of origin. We must also highlight the soundtrack, which has been made by one of the most prestigious musicians in Spanish cinema, and which sounds very good in the series. All this makes it a television show of the moment and essential viewing. And remember, don't tell the ending.

DON'T MISS IT IF YOU LIKED THE BOOKS
meritxell-alvira3 March 2024
If you have read the novels from the Red Queen's universe, you won't be indiferent. And if you haven't read them yet, it doesn't matter: you'll enjoy the series anyways.

Noir series with mysteries for discover and with plot twists that will make you want for more. With a season finale that is asking for a second season immediately.

The characters are well defined, and although the readers of the novels have imagined their ones while reading, the Jon and Antonia of the series are faithful to the books.

The soundtrack is spectacular and it makes you enter in the mystery.

I recommend it and looking forward for more.

Writers must love blabbermouths....
Ringding39 March 2024
So many times we're introduced to what seems like an interesting character such as this detective. What could be a partnership based on respect and the ability to remain professional and focused turns into the same old over emotional and inherently insecure need to talk at all the wrong moments in the plot. It's one thing to give his character a good sense of humor combined with a tough guy attitude, but it's all ruined when the moment of truth comes and the case is on the line yet he shows no ability to focus. It makes the character Unlikeable. The audience wants them to succeed as a team and not despite his need to run his mouth during a chase scene.

This is not Jon !
hipolitoesp13 March 2024
I'm sorry !. I've tried but I couldn't believe for a second that the huge Hovik Keuchkerian is the lovable Jon from the book !. Whilst after two minutes into chapter 1 I had forgotten about Vicky Luengo as an actress and was fully into believing her as Antonia Scott and it remained like that until the last minute of the last chapter ( that I watched last night ) , it was the exact opposite with Keuchkerian . And I don't think the problem is so much the looks of the guy but his acting , his voice , his declamation that felt always as imposed , artificial . On the contrary , I loved his mum's character which , again , I bought from the first moment she appeared on screen !. My problem has been not being able to see Jon through Keuchkerian impersonation ... and I bet I haven't been the only one !. Funny , though , that I loved him in his role at La Casa de Cristal ...may be because he hardly spoke a couple of lines there !?!?.

I think , however , the series is above average ( particularly for Spanish productions ) though when you've read and enjoyed the book it is very difficult to be up to the level of what it created in your memory when you see it translated on screen . Entertaining and well produced and directed , though .

Plus Vicky Luengo , not only fitting perfectly Antonia Scott's character but delivering an exceptional performance ,..., as usual !.

FANTASTIC!!!
chuslopez774 March 2024
I just watched the full 7 episodes of "Red Queen" (Reina Roja) and I can only say such a fantastic job has been done on adapting the book to TV. Once I started, I couldn't stop, one episode after another until finished. Even having read the books and knowing what was going to happen, it got me suspense and surprise and the "anxiety" of a thriller. Totally recommendable. The cast selection could have not been done better, Antonia Scott y Jon Gutiérrez couldn't be performed better for any other than Victoria Luengo and Hovik Keuchkerian. I cannot wait until "Loba Negra" ("Black she-wolf") and "Rey Blanco" ("White King") to be adapted to TV too, hopefully this is done pretty soon. Well done!

Original idea from best selling books provide a plot worth the watch
tony-146-69562614 March 2024
TV shows from Spain continue to amaze me, they are original and very well shot and written.

To be fair, this is series is based on best selling books, so the hard work is done for the writers. By episode 5 it is not hard to see the plot twist at the end coming, so writing is not perfect. But it does engage the viewer and keeps it interesting.

There are two lead characters in this show, the hyper intelligent female and the Kojak/Columbo style disgraced gay policeman. I wanted to mention that the police character is homosexual because of the way the show handles it. Unlike 99% of all shows and movies , there is zero wokeness. It is written into the show in a very realistic and organic way. Extremely so. I can say that is the best handled character I have seen so far. No hidden agenda. No messaging. His being a homosexual when the show refers to it is very mature and feels like part of the plot. It is however not central to the show, but instead is shown as giving the character unique ways to handle situations and people in a way not possible by a straight guy. Very well crafted. Not shown as bad or good, but something that just is and the character just lives his live.

The show can be broken up into three acts, with the last 2 episodes being act 3. Act 3 is the weakest, as it felt a bit rushed. They tied up everything neatly with a bow tie, probably in case there was no season 2. If season 2 had been pre-approved, they could have taken more time and it would have helped.

Episodes 1 to 3 are 9.0, 4,5, and 6 are 8.0, and 7 and 8 are 7.0. In the first few episodes specially and less so towards the end, her intellect is shown in the same way we see Murphy in The Good Doctor use his. With graphics and all. Show would have been higher rated if they had kept this up all the way to the end. It is used less as the show advances.

The shadowy organization that uses her superior intellect to solve crime and bring bad guys to justice is interesting but we are not given much info on them. Other than they do what regular cops can't. Nor are they "all good". They have no qualms with abusing and torturing their recruits in the name of "making them better", including giving them special drugs for enhancement. Pretty shady.

The female lead may be the most intelligent person on earth (maybe), but is still flawed in ways and still cannot make it on her own. Highest iq on earth is not enough. The show excels at showing this.

The middle age cop blackmailed into being her squire is likable, described as being an incurable romantic that decides things based on his heart and not rules and hard logic. An underdog that is easy to root for. His good heart sometimes leads to geiting his teeth kicked in. But he perseveres.

Overall there is a kidnapping they need to solve before the kidnapped is killed. Unlike many serials, the entire first season is the one case. We are used to resolutions in crime series per episode, so this took me by surprise and I had to get used to it. The case though is not what it seems, and if it was an onion to peel it would have many many layers before the final plot twist.

A season 2 is setup but the show can be seen as complete in season 1. There is enough resolved that you will not be bitter if there is no season 2. But you will be curious. There are always the books though.

Enjoying the series
chrisramey29 February 2024
I've watched two episodes so far and I'm enjoying it. She appears to be a female Sherlock Holmes to some degree. Not sure because I'm still getting back ground information to see where she got this ability or if she just has it because of her very high IQ. She's assigned to work with a fat, gay detective that at first, they didn't get along very well, but as the show progressed the relationship is getting better with moments of comedy, sarcasm and concern on how the other is treated by others . Fast pace, not boring as something is constantly happening. Whether it's a new clue, new kidnapping, murder, you can't go wrong by watching this.

I'm missing something
morgadox-5071712 March 2024
As a passionate (and specialist, but I believe passionate is more important) of Cinema and History, I have learned to distinguish between the different media in which a story can be told. I know that a movie, a book, a series, a comic book, or even The Ten Commandments written in stone are all the same.

However, having said that, I believe that this format is missing something. Surely 7 episodes are not enough, because you are left wanting more. And, at the same time, some parts of the plot advance suddenly without the viewer really knowing why. Either you have read the book beforehand or you will be more lost than a goat in a garage.

Even so, I hope they continue with their work and that we can see, sooner rather than later, the adaptations of Loba Negra, Rey Blanco, La historia secreta del Sr. White, Cicatriz and El paciente.

The show must go on!!

The queen of cliches
danielcereto15 March 2024
I am Spaniard so I was really excited about this one. I really loved to write a good review about something well made in my country like "Antidisturbios" for example. So, consequently I started to watch this based on a successful best seller. But I was wrong thinking this will be great. I am not sure why the hype of scoring this production as a 10.

First, the story is full of cliches, predictable and certainly boring. You can predict almost 95% of the story without reading the book.

Second, the acting seems forced and full of cliches again. Sometimes it looks like a soap opera mixed with Matrix and Saw. Terrible. Even the lead woman does a great job, sometimes is annoying because of her dialogues.

Last, the stereotypes here again are forced and nothing to do with reality from my country. People from Vasc Country speak Euskera not like here.

Anyway, I do not recommend this series if you have watched similar ones. Boring, predictable and not clever. Even the stereotypes are wrong.

Don Quijote y Sancho Panza sorry, Antonia and Jon!
fermovie5 March 2024
A disparate couple defines the success of Red Queen series. I don't care if the series is similar to or well adapted to Juan Manuel Gomez Jurado's Reina Roja (Red Queen) novel. Should it be that way? Absolutely not. I think what really matters is that a series gives you something good, something that you're not used to or may be that day was a really bad one and just want to forget about it. Red Queen gives you that and more. Vicky Luengo acts like she were Antonia since a long time ago. It wasn't easy but she made it. What can I say about Jon? Hovik Keuchkerian is the best Sancho Panza I could ever think of. Moreover I guess JM Gomez Jurado pretended that when created this characters. The missing parts fits like a glove: CGI, secondary roles ( don't forget Jon's mother actress and her famous Spanish omelette!), Madrid locations and so on. I would say this series is a great candidate to conquer your hearts. Please do not hesitate: Watch it and you will love it,

My brain explodes
elrincondepram1 April 2024
I haven't read the books but I'm scared of doing so because I think I won't be able to follow the plot thread and that I will loose many details, which it will make me don't understand the books though I will try. I think that because it has been very difficult for me to follow the tv series with all the jumps into Antonia's mind and sometimes it seemed a paranoid to me.

The tv series is very entertaining and the character of Jon is, without any doubt, my favourite, but there were moments it was long and hard to me and that, in my opinion, could be shortened.

Besides, I think I hadn't understood at all why some things happened.

The staging, the special effects and the photograpy are awesone.

Way over hyped
staysafeandremember8 March 2024
I can't comment on the books. But the series is stupid. A whole bunch of nonsense between weird murders and kidnapping. The main character knows everything for no reasoning besides her IQ is supposed to be the highest in the world. She walks through crime scenes and "sees" a bunch of past memories and such. Not because of evidence. But because she is the smartest person in the whole world. And apparently a God. No reasoning behind anything.

I'm offended that a "hit" series could portray itself as so great. Without any substance or explanation of anything. It's all just "as a matter of fact" bs. CSI shows have more substance. At least they try to explain their convenient conclusions.

Good book, BEST series
nastacv29 February 2024
I really loved the books and I was a bit skeptical about the series. But red Queen has surprised me, the cast IS amazing. Vicky Luengo and Hovik Keuchkerian really nailed It, the special efects are incredible and I can perfectly feel the presence of Juan Gómez Jurado in all the process. I don't want to make any spoiler but Red Queen Is one of the best series that I've seen this year, and the other series that are going to be released should be very good to be compared with Red Queen because this series has set the bar really high. I can only recommend you to enjoy Red Queen and read the books, you'll have a great time.

Great adaptation of the novel!!!
rrroi6 March 2024
I've seen the series in one sitting and to say I loved it may be an understatement. Very good adaptation!!!

It is always risky to adapt a successful novel, with many followers, but the result has been much more than satisfactory. We love Antonia and Jon very much for their adventures in the novels and in the series they have been very well characterized.

Well-chosen locations, good production, it shows that every detail has been taken care of, even the actor who plays the Control Assistant does a good job.

I hope I don't have to wait too long to be able to enjoy the adaptations of the next two novels.

Better to have low expectations
victoragus5 March 2024
Just boring from start to end, plain characters and poor developing of the story.

For me, the problem here that this SherlockHolmes-like character, is just as smart as the writers. And it seems that they had a big party with alcohol and other substances, where they all found everything they wrote far smart than it actually is.

The whole story is absolutely absurd, the paranoid scenes that the show tries to include are overloaded with poor CGI, and I saw a city I just cannot recognize. The city of Madrid just doesn't look like that on the screen.

It's a missed opportunity to sell to the rest of the world all the creativity and good work done in Spain.

Great show and excelent novel
enechan1 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This series is quite adictive, one of the things that Juan Gomez Jurado asked when watching Reina Roja was that we have to dose it so that we could savor it, and this is materially impossible, my intention was to only watch a couple of episodes and continue tomorrow, so I could have more days to enjoy an Antonia Scott as I had imagined her and a brilliant Jon Gutiérrez, however here I am finishing the last chapter in a row... The adaptation of the novel has the real esence of the writer so I really hope that Prime will adapt new seasons of the other books of this incredible universe that Juan Gómez Jurado has created, and continue watching this masterpiece.

Just too stupid to watch
therealhman8 March 2024
The premise is silly. 242 IQ woman with terrifying hallucinations of monkeys flying at her that can only be stopped if she takes a pill. Of course some else holds onto the pills for her.

The directing is dreadful. She acts like she has autism, can't be touched, doesn't look at people, etc., just mysteriously stares off into the distance using her "super power" IQ of 242 to see things we cannot.

Paired her with a large fat gay male detective. No romance there, or any interactions that would make the characters likable.

Mysterious and secret organization that has only the best detectives and computers, and who work secretly outside the law to pursue the bad guys that the regular cops can't seem to catch.

Amazing!
yadeg24-303-9181112 March 2024
Excellent. It seemed like I was reading the book again and that's very strange; because it is rare that the book is as excellent as the series and on this occasion it was masterful. The actors gave us an incredible performance. In fact, Vicky transformed into Antonia and Hovik Keuchkerian transformed into Jon. Nacho Fresneda's performance as Ezequiel was not far behind, his performance was phenomenal. Congratulations Juan, you did it again, You took us by the hand step by step watching the progress of the series and that made me feel part of the project. Now to wait for the second season, which I hope will be quick.

An accurate vision of the novel
javimogo2 March 2024
I really enjoyed the novel and I have enjoyed the series at the same level. The main success is in the choice of the leading couple. They connect from the first moment. The second point of success is the rhythm. The series takes its time when it is necessary to show some important aspect of the story or a character but, in general terms, it does not give the viewer any respite.

The performances of most of the cast, the music, the photography, the choice of some changes from the book and the direction of Koldo Serra work quite well.

I am not a big reader of detective thrillers nor is it my favorite genre in television or film series, but with Red Queen, I have been trapped, both with the book and the series. Now waiting for Loba Negra (which would be the supposed title of a second season).

Just awful
compugor21 March 2024
Utterly boring, awkward and dumb, this nonsense is unwatchable... maybe you have to have read the books to not bail out before the end of the first episode, because otherwise there's no reason to continue suffering through this dark, weird, snooze fest with terrible acting and no redeeming value. Making matters worse, the dubbing is so bad that the subtitles hardly ever display what is being spoken, to a ridiculous extent, for example one of the horrible characters might say "never mind" and it displays as "I told you to forget it", and not just occasionally but throughout all the stilted dialog. Thumbs way down.

Read the books and watch them come to life.
jaggito1 March 2024
I was a huge fan of the books so it's not a secret I was really excited for this show to premier. Let's put it that way: it was released yesterday and I already watched all the episodes.

Thanks to Juan Gómez-Jurado for just a one and a half hour sleep tonight. The cast for the two main characters it's simply amazing and the rest of the cast is trully amazing.

I seriously fell in love with Jon, even more that when I was reading the books. For those of you who watch it in English, you'll miss plenty of his jokes but, in any case, you will love him and Antonia.

I hope they will adapt the rest of the books. Now that they are alive, I expect more seasons!

What a disappointment!!!
verbal_66618 March 2024
What a disappointment!!! I approached this thriller TV series blindly trusting the many positive reviews... nothing could be more wrong nowadays, where professional reviews are often entrusted to business interests and amateur ones to donkeys who are satisfied with banal plots, some visual effects, and ridiculous twists from kids' films. This series, a mix between The Silent of the Lambs, Saw, True Detective, Nikita... and many others even mentioned, here with an excellent sense of humour, by the actors during the development of the plot, does not make an impression anywhere, and, indeed, it leaks from all of them. It's a loop of scenes with no purpose, and ends in themselves, to arrive at nothing, except a very banal ending, which could have been resolved in a 5 minute short film. The beginning is promising, certainly intriguing, as the plot unravels, it makes us wonder why we wasted almost 7 hours for... NOTHING!!! THE VOID!!! Negative, from all points of view, even the characters do not create any empathy. FAILED!!!

Great novel, brilliant adaptation
ahorst-823471 March 2024
I read Red Queen as soon as it came out, since I was already a fan of Juan's novels. I was eager to see his series, I knew that with him the series was not going to disappoint me, and it did.

Fast pace, setting and very careful details. And what can I say about Jon, if I already loved the character in the book, in the series the acting is adorable. Yesterday I only watched 3 episodes, I would have seen more, but I forced myself to stop and leave the rest for today to enjoy them better. Congratulations to the direction, production, performers (even Juan is there hahaha) and to Juan for making me enjoy his creativity so much.

I hope there are more seasons!

carlosfe-207271 March 2024
Despite the fact that I didn't read the original book that this TV series adapts, I have to say that I've really enjoyed watching the Red Queen TV show.

I would say that this is Spanish cinema at its finest, you have some really great characters for the spectators to love, a history that will keep you in front of your TV binge-watching the full 7 episodes, a cast full of really extraordinary actors and above all the touch of a director, in fact 2 directors, who did an amazing job in order to tell a story loved by so many readers and now ready to find a new audience.

To sum up, this is going straight away to my favorite TV show list. So I recommend it to you all if you want to watch a really good TV show.
