Sam Lara originally wanted to shoot the Romeo and Juliet scenes in a graveyard. However, she feared that with all the candles that were being used and the late hour of the shoot, she would raise suspicion and have to explain to police why they were conducting what appeared to be a satanic ritual.
Elle Mickel, who plays the part of Juliet, went to school with Sam Lara for 3 years.
The lighting and design of the Romeo and Juliet scenes were inspired by Baz Luhrmann's Romeo and Juliet, which was shot by legendary cinematography Don McAlpine. Coincidentally, Sam Lara was also working with her mother on a documentary about the life and works of Don McAlpine.
