- Jeremy's new herd of cows settle in, but soon reject the fence that keeps them in.
- The cows are in the fields spreading poo. Dilwyn is the local veterinarian.
The cows jump the fence and escape. There is a road a little further ahead and the cows are in danger of hitting the roads. Somehow Kaleb and Jeremy manage to herd the cows back inside the fence. Its day one for the cows on the farm
Meanwhile Jeremy plants chilies to sell them in the restaurant with the beef and as chili chutney in the farm shop. Jeremy and Kaleb install 2 poly-tunnels. Chilis are measured by their Scoville heat scale. Habaneros are between 150 K and 325 K. Naga scores 1.3 million. In the end Jeremy plants a selection including Habaneros, Nagas, and the volcanic Carolina Reapers. Jeremy cant cook in his own kitchen as it has yet to pass inspection. So he takes his chilies to the kitchen of the local rugby club. Tomasz and Joanna are the chili cooking experts. They decide to make a tomato based chutney with the Naga. Jeremy stands 10 feet away and still coughs from the heat of the Naga. Chili has a shelf life of a year.
Now after the poo has been spread, Jeremy brings the hens out to stomp the poo into the ground. Since his own flock isn't big enough, Jeremy borrows 50 hens from his neighbor. They also provide a mobile hen-house which is very state of the art, with an alloy wheelbase and a camera to keep a lookout for foxes. Fences are erected around the are where Jeremy intends to focus the stomping. Bit by bit the hens are moved all over the field to cover the entire farm The neighbors also bring a 2nd mobile shed full of cockerels. Jeremy learns that most Cockerels are killed when they are day old, as they are considered a waste product in egg farming. 25 cockerels are delivered
By the next morning, Cockerels were crowing at 4 am. They had escaped their pen, some ended as fox food and others were found in the hen house. The chilies are ready and Jeremy does a soft launch. The customers like the medium hot version, but not the Naga hot version. The calves are now old enough to be weaned off their mother's milk and are taken to another field to the far side of the farm. By the next morning all 9 veal have escaped and are found with a neighboring farmer. Jeremy retrieves them, but the following morning, they escape again. This happens multiple times, 4 times in 10 days.
Jeremy works with Kaleb to mend the fences. He injures his knee as the fence falls on his legs. Jeremy takes a farm health & safety course. He then installs a giant water tank, capable of holding 20,000 liters of water. They install the water tank next to the grain shed, with the rain collected on the roof filling the water tank. It takes a lot of effort to assemble all the components.
To ensure a steady supply of beef, Clarkson decides to impregnate the Heifers. Jeremy has to buy a device called crush to help with the impregnation. The device basically holds the cow in a steel cage, while the impregnating device is inserted inside the cow. The crush cost 10,000 pounds. Step one is to bring the heifers to heat with a progesterone releasing inter vaginal device. But its difficult to get the Heifers into the crush. Finally they manage to get one in. Dilwyn checks it for womb and ovaries by inserting his hand right into her vagina. Then Dilwyn inserts the progesterone releasing device. The artificial insemination will take place a week after the progesterone has been administered.
Meanwhile Jeremy trims the unruly hedges around the farm. He does it all wrong and leaves all the brambles unattended. A week later, the cows are artificially inseminated. The eggs are coming thick and fast in the hen-house. Chili chutney is in full production. The restaurant is the only thing pending.
