**contains spoilers** An attempt at cinema grotesque, the film is actually pretty cerebral if you happen to be a gay man. The plot itself can be quickly summarized as: gay "hook-up" is cut short when during the act, one man (Nathan) is informed he has a hideous growth on his buttocks which becomes increasingly more painful and unmanageable. There are themes gay men will find familiar from the very beginning when Nathan's hook-up begins to subtly humiliate him and assert his dominance ("you should work out more"). As Nathan's growth is located on his buttocks, he is immediately more concerned with how it looks (knowing this is a key part of his sexuality) and apparently only secondarily how painful it is becoming. There is a jab at the US healthcare system at the time; Nathan knows (as many of us did) that a trip to the emergency room without insurance will cost him thousands of dollars... which by his living situation is obvious he doesn't have. He resorts to calling another former hook-up who has a medical background; at first trying to simply forget about everything and become a sexual man again, but after this fails, Nathan turns to him for medical advice...which he still doesn't receive. Even the title, which has a VERY specific connotation in the gay community points to the underlying theme of a very real fear which many men have to either suppress or deal with every time they have sex: that despite best efforts they might still catch some type of disease or "bug"...but their sex drive compels them to continue.
Overall, this was very well edited (probably one of the most realistically gory movies I've seen),the sound quality was great and Brenden Shucart's acting is really amazing for what he had to go through in this. However, the writer/director just couldn't resist writing a part for himself...and without even knowing anything about this film, when a certain character started speaking I knew exactly who he must be, as his abilities were noticeably amateur. And the WORST (and I mean irredeemably) part was the ending; lazy....just lazy.
