Journey through the past
dbdumonteil3 June 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Plot :two girls go for a drive across Britanny ;one of them wants to find back a boy she fell with five years before "the masked sailor" (=Le Marin Masqué",hence the title);he was then still a child and anyway he wanted to sail the seas .Since the girl has found another man with whom she lives now, even though they have an occasional quarrel(we never meet him in the short).

Treatment:it harks back to the Nouvelle Vague days, which does not bode well,at least to my eyes : interminable conversations about their love affairs, cult of youth, stark black and white, amateurish would be natural acting, voice over all along the movie, sometimes repeating lines of the dialogue ,in case the viewer should not understand, you name it...The girls meet the heroine's father, treat themselves to delicious crepes (in Britanny ,they are lovely indeed ,the crepes that is)and bowlful of cider!yummy !yummy!

Compared to contemporary shorts such as "Pour Le Role ""J'Aurais Pas Dû Mettre Mes Clarks" or even " Chippendale barbecue" ,this masked sailor pales into insignificance.

NB:th soundtrack consists of FR David's "words don't come easy" ,instrumental or vocal versions
