Spoiled rich adult children
MickyG33326 March 2024
4.7 stars.

I've seen several of the Kardashian seasons. I've also watched multiple seasons of Jersey shore. So is this any different? It's basically an amalgamation of the two aforementioned series. Is it as good as either one of them; not even close. It's about a bunch of Persian people who supposedly came over, or their parents came over from Iran. I don't have all the facts about when they came over, but supposedly they were poor at the beginning and then they were filthy rich. I don't think that 1+1 = 2 in this situation. In other words, there is definitely missing information. There must be a super wealthy benefactor who has created a following surrounding these people, and it's all fake. Anyways, just my theory, I haven't even researched for myself. What I do know is that this is a forgettable "reality" show with too much backstabbing and reprobates lined up out the doors...

An embarrassment to Persians
iliazamanabadi26 April 2021
Obnoxious materialistic Kardashian wannabes. These are some of the least self aware humans I've ever seen. They're 4s thinking they're 10s, and the show is overtly scripted.

Just over the top!
renee-2571927 August 2017
I have seen bad but this is by far one of the worst shows I have ever seen, You have Reza talking about jerking off, and using terms like pussy when he went to the coffee shop. He needs to lighten up with his language. And no I am no pastor, but I would think it would be nice to turn the TV on and not have to stand guard over it wile Reza is on so any young kids watching will not ask whats jerking off? And has no problem using F**K at all wile he is on!

I don't have a problem with the rest of the cast, I haven't figured out yet what the show is all about, One stabbing the other in the back and talking behind another person's back! But to go to another country and start screaming come on Rabbi's and see your gay Rabbi's is about on the top of the list of disrespect for the country they were in!

Overall this show is about a 1 poor taste, poor planing, and down right poor cast!

It's A Train Wreck!
Sylviastel26 March 2012
This show is not a positive look on the Persian Americans in Los Angeles, California. They fled persecution, wars, and death in Iran to settle in Beverly Hills. Many of the cast mates are friends from Beverly Hills High School. Let's fact it, they're not normal in the first place. While I can only imagine the possible outrage from this show's existence, I find it interesting that Ryan Seacrest is in charge of production. Usually it's soul-less Andy Cohen but not this time. Hopefully unlike Cohen, Seacrest doesn't have painful reunion shows to watch. Anyway, the three women and three men have a balance. Reza is a Persian American homosexual real estate agent and his office mate and best friend is MJ, a Persian American woman. Asa is a Persian American woman and an artist who is probably my favorite. She's more concerned about her art rather than the others' opinions. Sammy and Mike are both Persian American and Jewish men in the show. Both men are interested in women not Persian nor Jewish. While this show is an interesting look into another culture and often a foreign land which is Los Angeles, the show does try to explain Persians who are really Iranians but they don't go by that. Anyway, this show has some moments but I'll watch this train wreck. It's not as bad as the housewives shows.

Warning: Spoilers
Watching an episode, I just had the misfortune of seeing Asa trying to sell "Diamond Water" to a businessman/promoter using real diamonds in the water!.

The look on his face said it all, and I didn't think he was taking her seriously. She kept insisting on the idea however, firmly believing that is was a great idea, adding real diamonds with water to create a pure water and "Infusing the water with positive energy just by being in the room with the water? What? Who does she think she is? Jesus?

Real Diamonds are harmful/fatal to humans if swallowed you silly girl.

I notice she now has a website trying to sell it for US$35.88 a liter! WTF?? Hopefully no one will be stupid enough to buy it unless they have a death wish. Surely there must be some watchdog in the USA that prevents this sort of thing from happening?

Unbelievable that someone so intelligent (she graduated from UCLA with undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Philosophy), could be so stupid.

Why I like this show
bing-103 April 2013
I am addicted to this show. It is an interesting look into a culture that is private and hidden from a white man like me.

I've dealt with Persians in my career and they are always motivated and intelligent people, but Shah's of Sunset Persians are f___ing over the top crazy. I hope their behavior is overly dramatized because they have cameras in their faces, because there are some serious personal problems on parade here.

Aside from that this is a fresh concept and non-stop action that comes across as genuine.

As another review wrote, its is a train wreck, and we all like to watch train wrecks, right?

Looking forward to Season 3 - if it happens.

Pretty Much Trash...
jupitersboba28 July 2021
GG is extremely annoying... She says she hates ants and ugly people... when honestly she's not the BEST looking person out there. She's so rude to that one girl in the first episode and saying she isn't wearing something appropriate for a house party, when she was literally in a bathing suit?? ... the party was practically a pool party so like... what?? GG, MJ, and Reza are so rude when it comes to other people's styles... and it's funny to me because not everything they wear is cute?? Can we talk about that cheetah print green dress MJ wears in the first episode?? PLEASE... I agree with one of the other reviews that this is a bad copycat of KUWTK.... Sorry but you guys are trying way too hard.

An entertaining account of one groups summer experiences. FUN, SUN, PARTIES and MADNESS!
turaa-uni31 May 2013
To be subjective, I must admit that this series has been a regular source of unproductive procrastination since early 2013. Which has suited the occupants of our household quite well. As We've come to the end of this season we are sorely contemplating what other programs could suffice in the meantime.

Although, as the previous members have commented. This series does not address the lifestyle of "Persians who are really Iranians but they don't go by that", on the other hand it does give a great account of an otherwise hidden social class.

The personalities on this show are very entertaining and we're constantly drawn to there personal journeys of growth. I personally feel as if our want/need to align our self with someone else has assisted in making this series so addictive.

We are all anticipating this series come back, so don't be too long :D.

The Worst Show Ever
Kayjee10 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
They're all toxic toxic toxic!!!

Reza is always ready to bring up "Oh I'm gay, people don't accept me" as an excuse for his horrible behaviour GG,whoo.......she has PROBLEMS,her sister is horrible by the way but GG needs mental help, she seems misunderstood and very impulsive but...she needs help. That's all I'll say.

Mike, another person who needs help. He didn't treat his ex-wife well. He and GG should see the same doctor.

MJ...very horrible behaviour, constantly blaming people for her bad behaviour. Whiny, she reminds me of a grabby child that doesn't want to let go of their dirty diaper...yeah, you want to get pregnant so badly.. shouldn't stop you from being happy for someone else. Her mom is currently competing for Worst Relative ever against GG's sister.

The thin Barbie(Lily?)...she wasn't that bad or anything. She just came into the wrong group. They were quick to cast her out like she was the worst person ever. And they made her out like she was just a random, rich, dumb barbie.

Asa is my favorite among them. Very focused on her art although she had really dumb ideas like diamond water....really,who does nonsense like that? Her choosing to take a step back from the show and the rest of them was the best for her and her baby.

All in all,I felt really embarrassed for these people while watching the show. I only ended up watching the sneak peaks and the reunions instead of the full show.

Don't waste your time. Thus show is absolutely fake. There was nothing redeeming about it. I wouldn't even have it on while I am sleeping.

Why the Hate?
PartialMovieViewer13 April 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Beyond scandal, this show teeters across a thin pleat bookended by chasms opprobrium. Jaw-dropping is an understatement. Heartache and pain are seamlessly link merged with fun romps and sidesplitting laughter. Juicy moments of tantrums are quickly squelched by deep sensitivity. Ah well...haters will hate. Arguing and verbal sparring are the fundamental foundations of successful reconciliation and a fruitful partnership. One of the best out there. Sure feelings are kicked around like unsuspecting seagulls...its the nature of the beast. Farm animals are not on this show, too bad. This is my kind of program. Most of the show is formulaic...just like the rest of 'Reality TV...so you're fired. Give me a break and shower these folks with countless EMMYs. They may not deserve them, but neither do I and I want one. Go forth and watch this program. If you like it, then you win...if you don't, 'HA' you should have not read this review. This show is only for the serious art lover. Like "The Birdman", only us narcissistic sycophants will blossom in its sunshine. There are not many people fishing on this show either...ah well. Enjoy

Excitement
aj-7948128 September 2018
I love this show; when I'm feeling low, I watch an episode of shahs Of sunset, if the cast doesn't excite you with their " no holds bar" lifestyle, nothing will. Every cast member is my favorite, no one is boring ever, I love them all.

Absolutely shows Americas diversity
prosper122 May 2018
A group of Persian refugees fleeing the Iranian Revolution of 1979 arrive in California and embrace or define the American Dream. They drink their faces off, have petty squabbles, cover themselves in jewels and gold, have extensive plastic surgery and the totally mad and open gay guy, must be the envy of every gay person in Iran; I think they kill people there, but if I'm wrong, I know they don't accept a gay lifestyle. This is the best way for America to overthrow Iran; show how much fun it is to be Western and free.

I only see this series when traveling and in hotels or motels with cable and always look forward to seeing their antics. I'm not clear on where their money comes from as they don't seem to work, so I presume they were fortunate enough to load up their coffers before fleeing Iran. I don't think this show costs a lot to produce ---perhaps that's where their money is from?---- so I suspect it will have a long run and we'll be blessed to watch the cast grow old and die over the coming years.

Having lived 20 + years in southern California, I can see this format being adapted to a wide range of transplants that make America so culturally diverse; Israeli's of Fairfax, Russian Oligarchs of Rodeo Drive, Chinese of Monterrey Park, Japanese of Palos Verdes, Koreans of Cypress, MS-13 of MacArthur Park....it's endless, but it will take a lot to top the Shahs of Sunset

Some Persians take offense!
ocrockstarah17 July 2017
This show was a lot funnier earlier on, but still worth watching these days. Iranians are a diverse bunch and some don't act like this at all, would take offense to being compared to Reza and MJ. However, there are some Persian-Americans that do party, drink, travel, gossip, and just want to have a good time like the Shahs of Sunset. The more the show goes on, the crazier the antics but take it all with a grain of salt. Persians are very social, happy people but this show seldom focuses in on that, it just displays the trashy behavior of some rather unhinged characters that are only a fraction of the Persian-American population.
