I watch a lot of reality TV. I know it's trash TV, but there are certain shows that I think do it very well. Love Island franchise, The Bachelor franchise, 90 Day Fiance, Too Hot To Handle, Ex on the Beach, Love is Blind, etc. I have watched it all.
This one doesn't meet the level of entertainment, production, or even format of those shows.
First of all, there is no proper host. Some "orb" talks to them, and to me it seems to mimic the voice from THTH. Why? I think it may have been better to have an actual host.
Secondly, I am a little confused about the format. There are 4 people chosen to represent the 4 elements. If they're the main people, then how come there's not enough effort from the rest of the cast to get to know them? I was initially under the impression that the 4 elements would be more in charge like in the Bachelor. Either make all the contestants equals in choosing like in Love Island or Love is Blind, or clearly lay out the format for eliminations.
The eliminations don't really take place until later on. You also can't connect with any contestants because you see so less of them. There are too many in the house. The show ends up being a bit chaotic near the middle of the season, but not in a good drama kind of way. It just makes the formatting kind of useless and ineffective.
Third, I know these shows are mostly scripted and not really as "real" as they claim to be. However, the conversations are sooooo awkward and mostly cringe. This is an issue with the editing process. I don't really care for any of the people I see. I think there's also some issue with casting because certain elements garnered more interest than others. The last three episodes get a little better, but it's too late by then. I learned a bit more about the elements and those they chose at the end, but it still doesn't save the show for me.
Of all the reality TV shows I have watched, this one is least entertaining. I don't feel inclined to be invested in many of the contestants.
