A Whale of a Movie
boblipton4 October 2012
Men in sailor suits with pom-poms on their hats row a boat in a medium-tight shot. According to the title, this is a whaling boat and it looks like some sort of exercise or sport the way they are dressed in this late Lumiere-produced movie.

For a Lumiere it is a below par. The camera is in the boat and it is in tight focus. There is little or no motion other than the back-and-forth sculling of the crew, far from the fascinating complications of movement that the Lumieres' cameras had recorded in the previous decade. While it is interesting as a look at the way members of a profession used to dress formally, it's not very good as a movie.
