Overjoyed Experimental Short
EdgarST14 April 2024
Miguel Gomes has his days, in which he revels in self-reference and a closed personal universe, but he also has other days, fortunately more frequent, in which he becomes an accessible filmmaker, even if he is experimenting with audiovisual narrative. The luck is that Gomes approaches it as a game of infinite possibilities, like this beautiful and overjoyed experimental short in three sections, a hommage to Francesco, the "hippie saint", and to the fauna of Mother Earth. A song evokes the works of Francesco, who is awakened by Clara, his friend, loved one and colleague in the book of saints, and forces him to remember his dormant love for animals, leading us to an exultant montage of some species in the deadly dance of existence, which is my favorite section of the film. Very good work.
