Fascinating, engaging and not for the squeamish

I very rarely give a show 10 out of 10 but I had to do it for this show because it really does deserve it.

I was also surprised no-one else had left a review given the wide range of votes it has received so here is mine.

These shows are about how the interior plumbing etc of these animals helps them live and thrive in their respective niches. It dissects real animal carcasses to show us their various adaptations and often explains how they evolved. In some cases they also perform an autopsy to uncover how the animal died.

I do not recommend eating when viewing, it can be pretty gory and gross at times, but never gratuitously so.

It gets 10/10 because: The presenters are very knowledgeable AND very engaging. The facts are presented and explained in an easily digested way. The animals are completely fascinating and I have learned a lot from EVERY episode.

This is a brilliant series. My kids and I both thoroughly enjoy these episodes and wish they were making more. This is a perfect companion series to Planet Earth and Blue Planet.

My favorite documentary series of all time

I watched this show as a child and it was very formative for me. It's very well-made and fascinating.

Dr. Joy Reidenberg is my favorite member of the cast - she is a joy indeed, and her excitement is contagious. Her genuine love for and interest in biology shines through every second she's on screen, especially when it comes to her specialties in aquatic animals and vocal anatomy. She explains things clearly in a way that makes her deep understanding and expertise obvious. It would NOT be the same without her.

I really love seeing these huge creatures be cut up and explained. It's a lot more hands-on than other edutainment media and goes more in-depth in some interesting ways. The whale episodes are my personal favorites. I highly recommend this show to EVERYONE - even if you don't think you're interested in biology, this show might surprise you.
