During the televised press conference towards the end of the movie, the speaker says they are expected to run out of fuel and crash into the Pacific ocean. A flight from LA to Tokyo would surely have enough fuel to make it into inland China/Russia before running out of fuel.

Mouth-to-mouth (Rescue Breaths) resuscitation was removed from the CPR protocols in 2008. Brad (Martin), as a paramedic, would have known that. However, anybody with common sense would not perform mouth-to-mouth when the victim's mouth was full of blood.
