Getting Even
boblipton21 November 2018
A couple of young men are bathing in a river, their clothes resting on a nearby bench. An elderly couple tosses their garments to the ground and sit down in this decent, one-joke comedy short from William Haggar.

Haggar was born in 1851 and eventually became a performer. In 1870, he married Sarah Walton, whose family had been performers for generations, and the two of them set up their own troupe, gaining some success playing in "the sticks" in Wales. About 1898, he saw a movie show and bought a set-up for his company. About 1902 he began shooting his own movies, often using his own family as performers.

Sarah Haggar died in 1909 and Walter settled down in Aberdare and opened a movie house. Eventually he ran several throughout Wales. He quickly became a respected local citizen. He died in 1925, just short of his 74th birthday.
