Nymphomaniac: Vol. I (2013)

Goofs

Nymphomaniac: Vol. I

Edit

Continuity

When the elevator gets stuck with Jerome and Joe on it, shortly after their 'reunion,' he is able to open the door for the floor above them. With his extended arms, the floor makes contact with his wrists. Jerome is at least an inch taller than Joe, as can be seen while he gives her a tour of the offices. But when he has climbed to the higher floor and there is a closeup of him reaching down to help her up, the top of her head aligns with the floor. This would only be possible if she were at least one and a half feet taller than him.
The actors playing the role of Joe at different ages have different eye colours. This results in Joe's eyes shifting from blue to green to brown depending on her age.

Incorrectly regarded as goofs

When Joe parks Jerome's Jaguar (after Jerome failing to do so), the shot from the outside shows that the car is parked between two other cars, one in front and one behind theirs. When however, the shot changes to the back seat towards the front, it seems there is no car in front, just empty road. this is because the back-seat angle is showing the opposite side of the road, which has no cars parked on the side.
The doctor tells Joe that morphine wouldn't help against her father's seizures. This is true, but there is actually working medicine: E.g. benzodiazepines (e.g. diazepam) would immediately shut down any seizure. So do many other strong downers. There is no way a doctor doesn't know. This error only serves the purpose of creating a very dramatic scene.

It wasn't seizures that would be have been helped with the morphine. As the doctor explained, her father's issues were with delirium. Morphine wouldn't have helped with that. Morphine would likely make it worse, especially in large doses, since morphine can cause hallucinations. Other medications that increase delirium risk are opioids, antihistamines, dihydropyridines, and benzodiazepines.

Anachronisms

Even though the film does not indicate the year, the mise en scène places the story in the early 1970s.

Some cars that weren't in the production until the mid-1980s were visible in the parallel parking scene: Rover 800 (production started in 1986), third-generation Audi 100 (1982-1991), Volvo 245 (updated tail lamps from 1981 onward), and second-generation Volkswagen Jetta (1984-1992).

The type of external rear-view mirrors and bumpers on Jaguar XJ driven by Jerôme (Shia LeBeouf) indicates a Series III (1979-1992) while the period-correct Jaguar XJ (Series I or II) should have chrome mirrors and bumpers.

Errors in geography

The train carriage where the two girls pick up strangers is German, but the ticket collector is wearing a British Railways uniform from the 1970s.
The action is supposed to take place in England. But Joe's apartment has European-style electrical outlets (round pins) on the walls, as does the hospital room where she visits her father.
