Common Ideas, Bad Achievement
larapha23 November 2016
The idea is quite common: In order to inheritance, a man must wed. The new fact here is that he is gay. Out of this idea there could be good achievements, but this wasn't the case. The film is so boring, maybe because of the script, maybe because of the main actor, maybe because of the direction, maybe because of all this and something more. The fact is you'll have difficulty in getting linked to this movie. There are some scenes that are actually funny, but there isn't much more than it. As a whole, this isn't the kind of entertainment I would recommend for someone looking for a good gay rom-com. It can only be a passing time for someone that already have seen all good things in stock, and isn't willing to re-watch some of them.

Gay comedy that falls flat...
ohlabtechguy25 February 2021
The concept for this movie.....having to find a spouse in a short amount of time in order to receive a substantial inheritance.....is something that could be made into a comedy. Unfortunately, hardly any of the writing in this movie was funny. I only laughed a few times when Raj's traditional looking British Indian parents made their appearance. The primary character, Danny, was not well developed. We never were shown that he was indeed a nice catch. In fact, he seemed cocky and self-interested most of the time. Just a poor execution all the way around...too slow, not funny and not well developed.

Contrived Plot & Shallow Protagonist Ruin Movie
Bayamon_Hill18 August 2013
Warning: Spoilers
For any romance movie to work, the audience has to believe in the protagonist. We have to find him lovable and deserving of another's love. You do not get that in this movie. We are introduced to a man named Danny who has to get married in two weeks to get his father's inheritance. He spends the ensuing days interviewing and culling suitors as if selecting fabrics for a new sofa. Danny is immediately unsympathetic as a main character, and remains so as the film's silly plot device takes over. The groom bounces between three prospective husbands all the while trying to prevent his closest friends from realizing what he is doing. Would-be hilarious hijinks do not ensue. Through it all, I kept trying to understand why anyone would want Danny, especially when the suitors all seem like nicer people than him. When he eventually does choose someone, it seems arbitrary because there is almost no connection, or screen time for that matter, between the two men. There is no romance in this romantic comedy (not even a kiss in this movie), and very little comedy. The movie would have worked much better if Raj (Rupert Charmak) were the main character (he exudes earnestness and love) with a less contrived plot.

A man selecting from a field of possible wives......
arizona-philm-phan22 July 2012
Warning: Spoilers
.....Just as in any (heterosexual) fairytale, this film introduces us to an "inheritance situation" confronting a young Prince of a Man (notice I didn't say Handsome), who is faced with choosing---from a selection of desirable women---that person who will become his wife.

OH, WAIT...WAIT...WAIT! ....Did I get this all wrong? Oh, dear me. Perhaps I've misunderstood (though the storyline in this film, and the behaviors of its 4 male main characters, certainly make that easy to do). So, please..won't you let me start over again?

Possibly...just possibly...this story is, INSTEAD, about a Gay (or is he) young Prince of a Man, who is faced with choosing a spouse from a field of two handsome lads + one older man (and, whoa...an ex-wife). ....But, truly, it was difficult for me to conclude that any of these characters were Gay (altho there was one supporting character who....ahem..ahem). More directly, such was the case for me because I saw no Gay romantic behavior taking place between our Prince and any of his three choices. Though I suppose, relievedly for the 4 males actors involved, their script called for no lips to touch any other lips in this entire spouse selection process. In other words, none of these actor's acquaintances could ever wonder if, in real life, they might be Gay.

Lastly, much of the dialog, particularly for the supporting characters, is flip...silly...and nonsensical (at least for we non-Brits out here). While there are many of the right platitudes spoken along the way, they usually come during the wrong places in the film.

So, if any of you out there are looking for a Gay romantic film to take home, this is NOT the one which will likely do it for you. Oh, yes...production values are pretty high (only because in its genre, it is not a cheaply-made American production). But, admittedly, there are some funny bits.

This DVD will not be making it into my Library of Gay Keepers.

Terrible
derekthayer23 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The premise is ludicrous. A man has a marriage deadline to inherit his father's estate, so he narrows down his prospective spouse to three men. All 3 are ok with competing for the chance to chosen. Add two women (one his ex-wife) who also want to be in the running. Bring in some family to witness who "wins."

The audience is definitely not the winner in this case. What could be an over-the-top comedy is lackluster, plodding, and dull. The protagonist is a bore. His "friends" don't seem to like him at all. Even the revelation that his primary motivation is the inheritance is met with indifference to the potential husbands.

He ends up choosing, though his motivation is not addressed even superficially. The audience is shown next to nothing of the characters' personalities or desires that drive their actions.

We're not given a reason to root for or like any of the characters on screen and the movie ends with a huge feeling of 'who cares?'

Not a gay movie
paulhopps2224 February 2013
Ref the previous reviewer - you really have missed the point. I guess you thought this was going to be a gay porn film just because it has a gay storyline . The whole point of this movie is that its a romantic comedy and some of the characters just happen to be gay. I do agree tho that the production values are incredible, comparable to Bridget Jones or Love Actually. This is a Brit comedy, beautifully shot, has an amazing soundtrack and acted with believable feeling and emotion. A Blockbuster family movie, not a side street bookstore flick.

This film was shot over a period of 3 weeks and in some of the most beautiful locations in north Devon, England. The main character, Danny ( Chris Finch, character actor from Coronation Street and Holyoaks) has to find a partner to be able to claim his inheritance. He turns to the internet for a quick solution. After a series of interviews and hook-ups with an assortment of men, he narrows the possible lucky man down to three. The wedding is booked, all 3 possible "husbands" arrive .... but who will the lucky man be?

Add to this that his previous wife is also in the running .........

A great British farce ensues .....
