Introducing The Lich
Rectangular_businessman28 August 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This was a pretty interesting episode, since it introduces a different kind of villain for "Adventure Time": Instead of the comical and strange antagonists from the rest of the series, this new villain (voiced by Ron Perlman, no less) is someone very vicious and extremely dangerous (And I mean, dangerous by everyone, not only for Finn and Jake)

The introduction of this new villain (though he had made a very brief cameo in a previous episode) is a great addition for "Adventure Time", adding some level of seriousness to the plot; however, the seriousness is well balanced with the comedy and the weird situations that are a common part of this series, resulting in a very enjoyable episode.

The resolution of this chapter was...Unexpected, to say the least. Fortunately, the next episode "Mortal Recoil" provides a more satisfying resolution.

This episode changed the show, and with that, TV animation as a whole

Warning: Spoilers
The moment Princess Bubblegum got dropped in a vat of acid at the end basically told us, the audience, that the show would never be the same. The Lich was a more serious villain then what you expect from the show at this point, as he nearly succeeded in his goals in this episode and the next, and with the ending, it confirms that the show will never be the same. Things to this episode, it inspired more animated shows to have deeper story arcs, more complex characters, and an overall darker feel then the cartoons from a few decades prior.
