Halle Berry in The Call (2013)

Goofs

The Call

Edit

Continuity

When Jordan stumbles upon the trapdoor access to the underground bunker, it is covered with leaves and debris. But Michael is already inside, so the debris would have fallen away when he opened the trap door.
When the first eyewitness calls from the freeway, she states the model of the car. During his dispatch, Marco also states the model of the car. As time passes, Casey pours paint out of the broken taillight while Jordan dispatches to police. But she states the car as unknown make and model. This information would've been relayed to her.
When Casey is outside the trap door and Jordan is about to call 911, the length of cut on Casey's forehead is shorter than what was when Michael cut her.
When Jordan is talking to Michael Foster on the cell phone for the last time, there is no sound of metal clanging. But later when she listens to the recording of the call, the metal clanging sound is heard.
When the call center supervisor approaches Jordan's desk to tell her they're still working on tracking Casey's phone, the supervisor's headset disappears from her right ear between shots.

Factual errors

Nitric oxide is being used as an anesthetic to subdue the girl in the basement but it is not an anesthetic - nitrous oxide is the gas used.
While training other staff, Jordan incorrectly says that the suicide rate is highest during Christmas. This is false. Suicide rates are highest in Spring. From Psychology Today: "Contrary to popular belief, the suicide rate peaks in the springtime, not the wintertime. This is probably because the rebirth that marks springtime accentuates feelings of hopelessness in those already suffering with it. In contrast, around Christmas time most people with suicidal thoughts are offered some degree of protection by the proximity of their relatives and, at least in the Northern Hemisphere, the prospect of 'things getting better from here'."
The dispatch supervisor instructs Jordan to keep the victim on the line so they can issue an "Amber Alert." This would not be allowed because Amber Alerts in California must contain verified suspect info to include NAME, VEHICLE, and LICENSE PLATE. Because suspect name was not known and vehicle was cold-plated (incorrect plate for vehicle), this would go out as a BOLO (Be On the Look Out), but would not qualify as an "Amber Alert."
Somewhere around 1:06:38, Jordan is replaying the conversation with the victim. At some point the camera points towards the screen revealing that the duration of the call was only 22 minutes and 15 seconds, this is obviously a mistake considering they have actually been on the phone for an hour or so (The screen also says "CD-02" which could very well mean the archive only records calls in 1 hour segments and the first segment was an hour, but that is not confirmed).

Incorrectly regarded as goofs

Because this is set in Los Angeles, when the gas station attendant is dosed with gas via the pump, this could not happen. All California pumps (to include any registered "private" pumps) are fitted with SMOG reducing sleeves. When the sleeve becomes disengaged from vehicle, the pump automatically stops the flow of gas. The pump used for filming is obviously not fitted with this sleeve and continues to flow after being removed from vehicle. But if you look carefully, this is a gas station with old pumps that have warning labels on them about how shutting off the gas flow before discharging the sleeve from the gas tank; These warnings are to avoid wasting or spilling gasoline on the ground.
Casey Welson drops and picks up her disposable cell phone (with no GPS) right before Michael Foster kidnaps her. Michael Foster could not have known that the cell phone had no GPS capability, so would not have allowed Casey Welson to have access to a cell phone when he kidnapped her. Correction: Casey Welson dropped and broke her own phone. The disposable phone was her friend's, which she had in her pocket, and was never seen by Michael Foster.

Revealing mistakes

On the amber alert it shows that Casey weighs 100lbs, and you can clearly see that she does not weigh 100 lbs.

Anachronisms

The perpetrator uses chloroform to subdue his victims, and it seems to be assumed that he would have access to this because he is a medical technician. In fact, chloroform has not been used as an anæsthetic for decades and is regulated as a hazardous substance.

Audio/visual unsynchronised

At two different times in the movie, when a call is ended on what is clearly an iPhone, the "charging" sound can be heard. This sound would only be heard when the phone is plugged in to charge, and would not make that sound when a call is ended.

Crew or equipment visible

When Paul examines the tracks at the parking lot, a large part of the film-crew is visible in his sunglasses for a few seconds.
Some shots of Foster's car driving on the freeway reflect the camera and its car.

Character error

Around the 33 minute mark, the car's license plate is reported to Jordan as 7CFI06X. Marco puts the license plate put into the computer as LCFI06X.
Michael Foster's motive for kidnapping and killing his female victims is apparently to collect their hair, so that he can wear actual hair wigs. However, Leah Templeton's body is not discovered as beheaded or scalped.
