Case for Hypnosis, A (1952)

Mildly entertaining short is yet another spoof of Sherlock Holmes with the characters here being played by chimps. Prof. Lightskull and Doc Twiddle are trying to locate the whereabouts of a magician who has the power to change people into anything they want but more times than not he plays the part of a jokster and instead turns them into strange creatures. One lady chimp wants to become an actress but instead the magician turns her into a camel. That's the type of humor this 13-minute short features and I must admit that it kept me somewhat entertained, although I think it could have been much better had the running time been chopped down a few more minutes. Daws Butler does a pretty good job with the vocal work on Lightskull but I wasn't overly impressed with Paul Frees. I thought the two actors didn't have too much chemistry together and a lot of the humor seemed really forced and the vocal work from Frees just couldn't pull it off. This is especially true when his character is playing a wimp and we get this girl-ish like voice that comes off more annoying than anything. This was written by Larry Clemmons who would go onto work on several Disney pictures and television episodes.
