It is impossible to ignore similarities between the fictional kingdom in the TV series and real life country of Pakistan. Rampant and well-organized corruption, nepotism, excesses of the government officials on government coffers while widespread poverty among citizens goes unnoticed, unqualified ministers, lack of health-care and proper education, are all references to the systematic problems of Pakistan. Even how the King took over the government by overthrowing his benevolent predecessor is veiled criticism of Pakistan Army's government take-over time and again.
Several scathing references have been made to decadence of Muslim rulers of Indian sub-continent who indulged more in pleasures of the flesh than business of the government.
Although, the fictional kingdom is a clear reference to Pakistan, unlike the real country the fictional country is somewhat of a regional superpower.
Legendary director and producer Qasim Jalali could not find a suitable actor to play the King and decided to take the role himself. His character was an instant success. It is his only known acting credit.
