Judd had a compound fractured Tibia, which had to be reduced to restore the circulation to his foot. Having done this reduction numerous times, there was nothing wrong with the field procedure. Later when he is talking to his father, his plaster cast is wrong for the fracture. He required support for the whole length of his Tibia in order for it to set correctly and Judd to remain in the fire service.
Noticed this in another episode and saw it again here. When they do FaceTime calls they never have the little window with the view of the person who is talking to the person on the phone.
The story shows Owen as being 13 in 1984, which would have had him being born around 1971. In reality, Rob Lowe was born March 17, 1964, making him 20 years old in 1984, 7 years older than his character.
