The short film was shot over a couple of weekends in the outskirts of Nampa, Idaho in 1992. During this time, David Lee Hefner was working at KIVI TV (ABC Network television affiliate), while Dan Hefner was working at KTRV TV (at the time, a FOX Network television affiliate).
The climactic explosion near the end of the film was a practical effect that was done in-camera by manually adjusting the exposure of the camera's iris.
In an attempt to create a more "cinematic" aesthetic, the filmmakers decided to add a letterbox matte to the original standard definition 4:3 Full Frame video image in Post Production. The commercial home video market would not utilize this ideology until several years later - which became a popular trend in releasing letterbox "Widescreen" versions of feature films in the 4:3 aspect ratio.
The full sized VHS camcorder that the Hefner brothers used for the production was purchased by them at a Sears department store on October 16, 1991 for $1000.
The movie takes place in the post-apocalyptic future of Los Angeles, California in the year 2099.
