Looking Sharp
Native troops in what look like US Army uniforms do formation practicing with rifles in bayonet maneuver.
We sometimes forget that Hawaii was an independent kingdom before 1893, and that means they had armed forces; and with the American takeover that year, that army had to go somewhere. So they eventually went into the US Army. During the Second World War, for example, over 2000 native Hawaiians were in the Army. The Hawaiian Division was organized in 1921, reorganized in 1941 into two divisions and were among the first and last American Army units to see combat in that war.
