Quotes
-
Karma Grant : If we get the Megamart, we'll lose the garden.
[rapping while writing in her journal]
Karma Grant : This is such a hard decision to consider./Do you remember all the memories we made from January to December?/Like the garden, and the trees, and my favorite tire swing./Holiday festivities, and those birthday parties./I don't know. I'm gon' miss this. I'm gon' miss these picnics./I'm gon' miss that time when I made those handprints with Winston./And even soccer games, and double Dutch was my thang./It's hard to come to grip that everything is gonna change.
[speaking]
Karma Grant : But we can buy so much stuff at the Megamart.
[rapping]
Karma Grant : I am so confused and I don't know what to do,/'Cause the Megamart is coming and I think that's really cool./Buy some clothes, buy some shoes, buy some toys, buy some food./But it gets complicated 'cause I think we're gonna lose/The garden./I'm so disheartened./The Megamart's a problem./WE need to save the garden.
-
Dr. Lillie Carter-Grant : Winston, you'll sign our petition to save the garden, right?
Winston Torres : Well...
Karma Grant : What do you mean, well?
Winston Torres : It's just that they're going to sell everything. jet skis, tennis rackets, pineapples.
Karma Grant : But Winston, you don't jet ski or play tennis. And you're allergic to pineapples!
-
[first lines]
Karma Grant : [rapping] Have you ever fought for something bigger than yourself sometimes/But other people have opinions? Can I change their minds?/Stand up for my beliefs for the greater good/To save what's important. I think one kid could.
-
Karma Grant : [rapping] We don't need the Megamart, let's protect what we started./It's such an important place, and we need to save our garden/Where strangers become neighbors, memories never end,/Where my parents first met, me and Winston became friends./Everything is organic. What we have is the best./And do you really think the Megamart's food is this fresh?/Our communities grow, this our community's home./I say we all come together, this our unity song.
Karma Grant , Dr. Lillie Carter-Grant : [singing] All the times we shared, we should never let 'em go./We should love, we should care. Our community will grow/With the garden.
