Director Jon Jones and writer Julian Fellowes capture the horror and tragedy of the Titanic sinking with extremely bracing and harrowing urgency. Fellowes warrants further praise for pulling zero punches concerning the ultimate fates of certain characters: Alas poor Muriel (a fine Maria Doyle Kennedy) doesn't make it and Jim Maloney (an excellent portrayal by Peter McDonald) drowns along with his daughter Theresa (sweetly played by Georgia McCutcheon). The shots of dead bodies floating in the freezing ocean water are especially sad and grim. The scenes with several men saying goodbye to their women are appropriately touching. Linda Kash makes for a delightfully feisty Molly Brown while David Calder as the resigned Captain Smith gets a poignant send-off. A strong closer for this overall solid mini-series.
