It's September, and Mila and Lukas have been apart for several months. Lukas is sent home early from his office and initiates impromptu phone sex, but both Mila and Lukas struggle to find the mood over the phone.
We flashback to Mila and Lukas' college graduation in June. Lukas is making preparations for their joint move to Amsterdam, but when Mila tells him of her acceptance into an L.A. writers program, they are forced to reexamine their future.
Mila and Lukas are in a rut. Lukas pitches a story with his colleague Fenna, and Mila flirts with her friend Ridley while out. The next day, Mila sends Lukas a cryptic text. Things aren't working, and they decide to take drastic measures.
Lukas goes to a bar with Fenna, and Mila has a roller skate date with Ridley. Both dates are awkward but exciting, and culminate with sex. Afterwards, Lukas cancels his flight to L.A. and texts Mila that he isn't coming back any time soon.
Mila and Lukas finally muster the courage to confront each other about the last few weeks via video call. Their argument ebbs and flows; at times hurtful, and at others, sincere. The question is - will they stay together or call it quits?
It's August, and Mila and Lukas are in Amsterdam enjoying their final fleeting moments together. Back in the present, Lukas falls off his bike and has a moment of clarity. In L.A. Mila goes out again with Ridley, but something isn't right.
