I have such fond memories of viewing Astro Boy as a kid. For the first time as an adult, I've been watching the episodes. Sad to say, it's not holding up as well as I had hoped. I can see why it appealed to me so much as a kid---about a boy who is immensely strong, powerful, brave, moral, and caring. However, I see flaws as an adult that I didn't notice back then--the crude, low frame rate animation (sometimes hardly one frame change per second), the silly, kiddie oriented humor, etc. This was an ok episode for the most part. Astro fights a giant alien robot who comes to earth inside a meteorite. He can't defeat him using raw strength, so he outwits him.
What really bugged me about the episode was the prologue, about a fisherman who outwits a genie. It seems that its only purpose was to show that Astro could also win a battle of wits, just as the fisherman did. It seemed rather pointless. The episode seemed to imply that the giant robot was sent by the genie to get revenge for being outwitted, which makes no sense.
