Jaggers signs his letter to Miss Haversham with his name followed by the letters Q.C. meaning "Queen's Counsel". This places the story in the reign of Queen Victoria, from 1837 to 1901. Earlier in the episode, Pip and Joe Gargery turn down a request from a slaver to provide him with chains. However, the institution of slavery was abolished in Britain and the Empire by the Slavery Abolition Act of 1833, having been made illegal in Britain in 1807. King George IV was on the throne when slavery was abolished in Britain, so Jaggers' correct title would have been K.C. (King's Counsel).
