Daniel Brühl and Benedict Cumberbatch in The Fifth Estate (2013)

Goofs

The Fifth Estate

Edit

Factual errors

After Manning is busted and communications between Assange and Domscheid-Berg are cut, Marcus chats with Assange. Then Domscheid-Berg uses Marcus's laptop to chat to Assange. The chat somehow recognizes the change in typing person, reflecting this in stating that the message came from "ddd" / Domscheid-Berg.
In the conversation about preparing the targeting video for publication, mention is made of "ffmpegs" and "Final Cut" video processing software. It's "ffmpeg" (not plural), a well-known open source video tool.

Revealing mistakes

After Julian and Daniel fight and finally split up there is a shot of the streets outside Daniel's apartment by night. Two cars drive past backwards, revealing the film has been played in reverse.
During a scene in London where Julian is inside a taxi, we see a blonde women with a ponytail approaching the taxi. However on the next shot showing Julian inside, her hair is now visibly showing wavy hair instead of a ponytail.

Miscellaneous

After Julian fixes the broken power cord, his laptop turns on with a Windows sound, but the computer has a clearly visible Macbook logo.
The track 'Pray (Consejos de Royer)' heard in the film was originally licensed to the studio for the film score with the wrong credit attached.

The actual credit for the track is

"Pray (Consejos de Royer)" Written by Munchi Performed by Munchi Courtesy of Munchi.

Anachronisms

In one of the shots, one of the hackers wearing a Beats Audio headset. The events supposed to be before 2003, and Beats Audio was founded in 2006.
During the opening credits, you hear Neil Armstrong say the famous line, "One small step for man..." A few seconds later Walter Cronkite reports "President Kennedy died at 1:00 pm..."). The issue is, President Kennedy died (22 NOV 1963) before we landed on the moon (20 JULY 1969).

Errors in geography

The building Daniel is working in is supposed to be in Berlin. The building is in fact The Belgacom Tower in Brussels, you can even see the Belgian flag on top of the building.
In both Brussels airport and the Liège railway station, we hear a Dutch voice with a Hollandic accent (Dutch as spoken in The Netherlands) speaking through the PA. This doesn't make sense as in Liège the language would be French, and in the airport, Dutch announcements would be with a Belgian accent (Flemish).
The caption says that Assange is in Tonsberg, Norway. The video is showing Aalesund, which is in a whole other part of the country.
