- Meredith, Amelia and the team prepare for Dr. Hamilton's long-awaited groundbreaking surgery; Bailey receives an unexpected offer; Owen's impatience makes him a difficult physical therapy patient, forcing Link to intervene. Richard tries to get through to Levi.
- Dr. Hamilton's rescheduled groundbreaking surgery happens, though not without an interruption in the OR.
Owen's impatience makes him a difficult physical therapy patient, forcing Link to intervene, and personifying that doctors can indeed sometimes be the worst patients.
However, Hunt suffers a setback, leading to the above interruption, and Grey nudges Dr. Koracick to miss observing the crucial part of Hamilton's surgery in order to solve the emergency.
Meanwhile in Minnesota, and intertwined closely with the OR scenes of Hamilton's procedure, Nick is hands-on in every step of a liver transplant, including a sympathetic pre-conversation with the family of the deceased donor, the extracting of the organ, and leading the team in transplanting it into the recipient, while coaching the team about never forgetting the donor during the surgery.
The other major thread of the episode involves Dr. Webber visiting Schmitt's home, in an effort to convince Schmitt to return, and offering any support needed.
Levi is polite and respectful, but stands his ground.
Also, Jo enters a bar to order food, finds Teddy there drinking, joins her, and they share recent details and commiserate.
Later, Jo and Link almost fall off the 'no sex' wagon, and Teddy and Owen begin to have a calm and meaningful conversation about recent events.
Amelia and Dr. Bartley briefly bicker in the OR, but grow closer afterwards.
Plus, Bailey receives an unexpected job offer from NASA, and something else unexpected from her new biggest fan, Dr. Wright.
Kevin McKidd directed the episode.
