- After the latest two weigh-ins, when Don (by choice by throwing the weigh-in) and Larialmy are voted off the ranch, the remaining contestants learn that they are officially split into two teams: the red team who have and will be trained by Cara and Brett, and the black team who have and will be trained by Bob and Jillian. However, those teams may have a few changes based on a Valentine's Day related chocolate temptation challenge. The winner of the challenge has the opportunity to trade up to two members from each team, with the winner even remaining anonymous. However, the ultimate winner of the challenge does decide to reveal him/herself and the reason for the decision made, which results in much discussion on both sides and among the trainers. The two teams also compete in a reward challenge, with six different phases of the challenge to be completed by different contestants chosen based on the theme of that phase. However, they are thrown a loop when those themes end up not being quite what they envisioned. The winning team receives video messages from home. At the post weigh-in vote, the decision becomes one of loyalty versus commitment.—Huggo
- It's Valentine's Day on the ranch, and host Alison Sweeney ushers the contestants into a room full of chocolate candies for a holiday-themed temptation. Whoever eats the most chocolate will have the option to trade two players on their team for two players on the other - or to keep the teams the same, and the winner will be a secret. But as teams are divided into red vs. black, the winner's choice causes upset in the house. Later, a five-part relay race challenge tests the players' endurance, speed, agility, strength and knowledge. - Open with Alison telling everybody there are now two teams. Red for the Unknowns and Black for the Ranchers.
The show begins with a temptation challenge. The contestants are taken to a room filled with chocolate. The winner of the challenge will have the option of trading two teammates for two players on the other team. Each contestant will have three minutes. The winner will have the choice of keeping the teams the same or making a trade. The challenge will be anonymous.
Sarah eats nothing. Neither does Jennifer or Hannah. Q eats four chocolates. Rulon eats five. Marci badly wants her team to stay together and eats ten pieces of chocolate. Moses has the same idea and eats 21 pieces. Arthur comes running into the room and ends up eating 35 pieces.
Alison reveals that there was a winner and the winner decided to swap two members. Jennifer and Jay will switch to the Red team while Sarah and Deni move to the Black team. Sarah and Deni are beside themselves. Jay is convinced someone from the Red team is responsible.
With Alison about to send people away Arthur speaks up and says he was responsible. He thinks that Marci and his dad were vulnerable. He says in a video interview that he doesn't trust Jay or Jennifer. Nobody understands why he made the move or why he fessed up when he didn't have to. The idea is basically that Sarah and Deni will be the first ones to go. Alison ultimately has to interrupt the argument.
Bob and Jillian learn what happened. Brett and Cara are fired-up to see Jennifer and Jay. Jillian points out that all Arthur may have done is turned everyone against him. Not only that, Arthur realizes he didn't even bring over the right team and he starts to cry.
Up next is the week's first workout, which happens to be the first time both teams are working together in the same gym. Justin makes a comment that the Bob and Jillian workout seems antiquated compared to what Brett and Cara are doing. Olivia gets angry because she can't hear Bob and Jillian over the noise of the Red team. The response from the rest of Red team to Jay and Jennifer is positive.
Alison greets them for a challenge. The reward will be videos from home. This is an especially big deal for Deni who had to miss her daughter's wedding to be there. The challenge is a five-part obstacle course comprising endurance, speed, agility, strength and knowledge. Each time a section is a finished a wrapped present is received. After all five are complete the entire team will unwrap the presents and have to complete a sixth and final challenge. Only knowing the category names the teams are allowed to pick which contestants they want for which section.
Basically Alison tricked them all: Endurance consists of pushing a rock up a hill while blindfolded and having to rely on your partner for direction. Speed is stacking bricks until they reach six feet in the air. Agility consists of matching dishes with their caloric content. Strength is balancing while walking across a telephone poll. Knowledge is shooting hearts at a heart-shaped target.
Rock-pushing Courtney gives Black the early lead. Marci and Irene keep the lead going through brick-stacking. Black increases the lead through Agility as Q yells from the sidelines. Arthur and Jesse fall off the pole on their first try while Red continues to struggle with the plates. Arthur and Jesse get through on their second try and Hannah starts shooting arrows with Red still on the third leg. Hannah nails her first shot and Black opens their packages. Black completes the puzzle and wins the challenge with Red still not having finished the third leg.
We see the Black team watch their videos. Most of the videos are pretty standard, with the wedding of Deni's daughter being the highlight.
Team vs. team weigh-in time: The team with the lowest percentage of weight loss will face elimination. The person on the losing team with the highest percentage will have immunity.
Red team is up first. Jay steps on the scale first and starts strong with a 14 (to 317). Jennifer keeps the train moving with a 14 as well (to 218). Austin is down ten (to 316) and Ken is down 14 (to 307). Q brings Reds's momentum to a screeching halt with a seven (to 378) and has no answer. Brett thinks the problem is Q isn't monitoring the way he should be. Rulon is down 12 pounds (to 382) and Justing is down ten (to 282). Kaylee is down five (to 195) and Moses has lost 11 (to 340), which ties him for the series record for quickest to lose 100 pounds. This means Red has lost a total of 97 pounds, or 3.43 percent.
Black is up next, needing to have lost more than 77 pounds to beat the Red team. That is nine pounds per contestant. Up first are the new members, Deni and Sarah. Deni is down nine (to 201) and Sarah ten (to 212). Arthur has lost nine pounds (to 435) and isn't happy. His father Jesse is down 11, to 246. Halfway through Black has lost 39 pounds.
Courtney is down ten pounds (to 265), while mother Marci has lost a remarkable 13 (to 187). With three left Black has lost 62 pounds. Olivia has lost 16 pounds (to 208), putting the team over the top with two left. She's emotional. Hanna has lost nine pounds (to 201) and Irene 12 (to 204). The Black team destroyed the Red team in all aspects.
Jennifer is the only person who cannot go home for Red, having lost the most weight on the team. Not surprisingly the most votes go for Q and he is eliminated.
We see in Q's at-home vignette that he's lost an additional 32 pounds since leaving the show.
