Following discoveries of Omens (or its former title 2020) being for-profit (with early betas and such) via Patreon funding, and thus posing a possible risk of more fan games following suit and spurring SEGA to clamp down on the community, many fans dropped their support of the game immediately. It's believed that esteemed Sonic fangame expo SAGE in particular banned the game from being showcased on their website for this reason, and the official community manager from the franchise reaffirmed that fans should not make fangames for profit. However, SEGA hasn't done anything about Omens since.
In the Maria boss fight, a texture was found in the boss for some obscured underwear, the words "bad girl" written on the texture.
Omen's Eggman actor, Sumochkin, streamed the last episodes of Sonic Omens on his YouTube, and struggled with the game. And with the addition of his own teammates in the project in the stream chat making fun of him for struggling with the game, he rage quit.

The game's final episodes were released around the same time as the release of Sonic Triple Trouble 16-Bit, which overshadowed Omens in popularity upon it's release.
