Different, Slow Burn, Philosophical

Actually I watched the movie on Amazon Prime video in the UK. I loved the music and the photography as well as the wonderful Greek locations and drone filming.

I believe the story is so difficult to understand if you are used to regular standards of filming. It's absolutely an independent effort of mixing the ancient Greek status of Mycanaean daily life and a fictional dramatic adventure. The existential messages are shown in the very first beginning of the movie combined with a romantic approach of the two young people. I strongly believe that if that script was in the hands of a multi-million dollars film company it would be a huge success.

I gave a niner because I'm sure about the honest and decent intentions of the director and producer to present something big in a lower budget production which is mostly based in beautiful cinematography and photography, epic orchestral music that sometimes reminds a little bit of medieval times, and the special deep philosophical narration..

As for acting some of the actors are quite decent in their roles and some of them need more work to achieve the demands of the director and the script as well..

I would suggest a remake of this movie because it promotes great values and ethics of the Greek civilization, with the same director and writer Demetrios Katis but this time with the support of a well established multimillion dollar Film production company in the style of Viking TV series or last Kingdom.

The scenario is above everything and deals the existential agony in the most dramatic way. I would definitely buy it if it was written on a book. We mostly know Demetrios Katis as an orchestral composer of epic music but this first effort of his in direction and writing is very well promising considering the difficulties and the independent effort.

From a Chinese who lives in the UK.

A wonderful film not to be missed by those who apppreciate original plot, good music and cinematography and epic landscape.

This is a beautifully photographed and directed existential love-drama story in ancient greece at the mycenaean times. An authentic fictionary look to another place and time. Meaningful. Heart rendering. Glorious sad. Sweetly hopeful. Magnificent.

The story is loaded with powerful dialogs, plot twists and philosophical researches.

I really enjoyed the remarkable music and the mix of romance, joy, drama, wit and loss.

I would definetly recommend this to all period film lovers.

A CRITIQUE ON THE FILM "BROKEN CIRCLE" BY PANAGIOTA BLETA
bletasp17 April 2023
The internationally renowned, multi-awarded composer, Dimitris Katis surprises us again by creating a film that is a hymn to Greek culture, a film that is an ambassador of the Greek spirit throughout the length and breadth of the earth.

The 139-minute feature film, BROCKEN CIRCLE is an epic science fiction drama set in Ancient Greece during the Mycenaean Era.

The film is an elegiac approach with didactic characteristics, that conveys philosophical ideas from the past to the present and future with abundant lyricism and archaic compositions.

The genius of the creator is that he managed to combine love with the innermost wandering in the steep ravines of the mind and the soul and to culminate the existential search on a background of mystagogue symposia.

He borrows elements from ancient Greek tragedy and uploads the power of the gaze and movement to an imaginary existential dialogue between his heroes.

His ingenuity creates a cultural bridge between the past and the future and establishes improvisation as an ideological technique, which aims to overcome the limits of entertainment and create soulful meanings, to create short-term as well as long-term reflection on the deepest human quests.

With mastery, he manages to alternate historical references and update them in the dimension of present and future time, penetrating the metaphysicality of man, creating a surreal tableau of images from aspects of life and imagination.

The whole effort results in the autonomy of man, along with the development of his collective consciousness, in any world, in any culture, in any limitless borders, inside or outside the earth.

The Greek topography is simply a tool in the hands of the creator to open the context of morality to a global dimension, thus declaring his active concern for the expropriation of empathy.

Messages full of ideological and philosophical weight that catapult the film from a cultural event to an intellectual one.

Panagiota Bleta - Writer, Thinker.
