Spaghetti carbonara is not actually a fancy dish. "Carbonara" means "charcoal burner", and those were some of the poorest members of Italian society, living off harsh manual labor in isolated lots in the forest. All the ingredients of the sauce were home grown on such tiny lots - dairy from a few goats. sheep or a cow, bacon from a pig, and some herbs from a small garden.
it is perfectly in character for Sally to be unaware of that though.
