The fan dub was based on a pirated bootleg DVD of
Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005) bought by blogger
Jeremy Winterson when he was living in China. The DVD contained a leaked workprint of the film, with English (misspelled as "Englsih") subtitles. Rather than faithful transliterations of the film's actual dialogue, these "Englsih" subtitles are a mix of primitive machine translations based on the film's Chinese dialogue and the work of a person or perhaps multiple people with little to no grasp on the English language. The translation was comically mangled with often very little connection to the original text, featuring constant improper grammar, misused and nonexistent words, butchered and inconsistent character names, even accidental sexual innuendo and swearing, as well as lines seemingly made up by the translator. The translation became a popular source of internet memes, most famously Darth Vader's dramatic cry of "Nooo!" that was rendered as "Do not want!" in the subtitles. Years after it became public, a group of voice actors recorded and released a dubbed version of the film with the garbled translations for fun. The full dub gained over 10 million views on YouTube.
