- "Why They Fight." Today, The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is king, and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is one of the fastest growing sports of all time. This short follows Brian Kelleher and Samad Mobley in the ring and out of it--into their lives, set in two very different worlds. One fights to succeed. The other fights to survive. The only place where their backgrounds don't matter is inside the ring.
Brians only job is training full-time for MMA fighting; his parents' support lets him do that. A native of Selden, Long Island, Brian trains in a state of the art gym with hundreds of bags, state of the art equipment, 3 sparring rings and a plethora of coaching. He is in the game with the hope of some day turning pro, and to some day make, the real money.
Samad works as a janitor in a middle school. After work, he trains at Ghetto Dayz Fight Club. For him, fighting is a way to keep him off the streets and out of the trouble so many of his friends have stumbled into. Mobley admits that if it werent for professional fighting he would either be dead or in jail. From Newark, New Jersey, he fights for the sport, for the hobby and for something to do.
