While "Qu'est-ce Qu'elle A Ma Famille?" was both the initial and final title of the project, it was temporarily changed to "L'Appel de la Cigogne" ("The Call of the Stork").
Michèle Bernier was originally cast in the role of Agnès, but dropped out and was replaced with Véronique Genest. However Genest had very publicly mocked Marc-Olivier Fogiel's book upon its release as well as the concept of surrogacy, leading Fogiel to criticize her casting. Genest was thus removed from the project and Guilaine Londez stepped in at the last minute.
Upon its initial airing on channel France 2, the film was part of a special evening on surrogacy, immediately followed by a debate on the subject moderated by Julian Bugier and then the documentary "PMA-GPA, Les Enfants Ont La parole".
While adapted from a non-fiction book recounting experiences with surrogacy, the film tells a fictional narrative on the subject.
