All most one year after his release of Schenectady, New York - which has been accepted into and well received at various film festivals - Director Nicholas DeRuve most definitely lived up to expectations with his most recent release: Dr. Thompson.
Continuing with his unique vision of the human condition, DeRuve delves into another type of addiction where a thin line exists between Love and Obsession. Dr. Thompson is a film of an established family-man who has lived a comfortable life through his Plastic Surgery practice who seeks refuge in an internet relationship with a girl named Kristy. This relationship becomes complicated and ultimately results in Dr. Thompson being ignored by Kristy. It is in this phase of the film where DeRuve once again thrills and surprises us with his ability to construct a point of view to depict this inner-turmoil and feelings of abandonment/betrayal. The final scenes of the film are daunting and revealing. Any viewer will definitely be "taken aback" by the conclusion of this film
DeRuve's talent is his choice of shot and use of light. In only twenty minutes the viewer is very much engaged and the tension is palpable. It will be no surprise when DeRuve moves onto features that will be world-renown.
