The episode concludes inside the convent's adjoining church. A Vatican II altar-table is shown in additional to the traditional altar against the back wall. Altar tables replaced traditional "backward facing" altars after 1969, as part of the Vatican II doctrine.
At the conclusion when Murdoch and his sister go to pray in church, all Catholics know that you genuflect on your right knee which is reserved only for the king of kings. Murdoch genuflects on his left knee. No practicing Catholic would do this.
The opening shot shows a statue of Ste. Therese of Lisieux who died in 1897. Since this series was set in 1898 and Therese was not even beatified until 1923, she would have been an unknown nun and there would have been no statues of her.
During the opening, the funeral procession, what appears to be part of a jib is seen in the background.
