Antics In the Courtroom

Harold and June Phillips had an unusual marriage in that they had wife-swapping parties. However, after one of their parties June Phillips left her husband to be with barrister Jeremy Halstead.

This led to the break-up of their marriage. Harold Phillips is charged with Assault Occasioning Bodily Harm after an incident in the Fulchester Magistrates Court where he had intended on confronting Jeremy Halstead but got involved in an altercation with his wife resulting in her falling into a wall in the court resulting in her needing Hospital treatment.

In this case presented in front of the Crown Court Mr. Phillips dismissed his barrister early in the proceedings electing to represent himself.

In this episode the cast included. Basil Digman (Mr. Justice Poynter) -Terence Hardiman as Prosecuting Barrister- (Stephen Harvesty) Barry Cadman as Defence Barrister- (Barry Willard)- Bryan Marshall- (Harold Phillips)- Susan Tebbs- (June Phillips)- Robert Austin - (PC Hughes)- Wanda Ventham- (Sybil Halstead)- Timothy Carlton- (Jeremy Halstead).

Some great performances from Bryan Marshall as Harold Phillips and Wanda Ventham as Sybil Halstead.

Interesting footnote in that Timothy Carlton and Wanda Ventham were married in real life.

Mr. Phillips representing himself is unusual - the legal profession takes Abraham Lincoln's view that "a man who represents his self the term has a fool for a client".
