Battle of Los Angeles (2011)

Goofs

Battle of Los Angeles

Edit

Continuity

In the early scenes of fighters maneuvering, the aircraft swing violently from side-to-side, but the pilots show no reaction.
When Tyler and Karla run into the troop carrier vehicle, Solano is not with them and Karla immediately drives away. In the next scene, Solano is sitting in the front seat with a large bag of weapons on the floor next to her.
The 2nd lieutenant uses the grenade from his front left pocket but takes it out to use it again later without getting a new grenade to replace it.

Factual errors

The F4U Corsair was a Navy and Marines aircraft, not Army Air Corps.
The F-16's ejection system is actuated by a handle between the legs. Not a stick as shown.
During the flying scenes, the women are repeatedly shown sitting upright in their cockpit seats and not resting back against the seat backs or headrests. This would be impossible while flying any fighter, as the pilot is strapped tightly into the seat and maneuvers would otherwise throw them around the cockpit.
Not one of the sidearms shown used by U.S. military personnel was U.S. military issue.
The F-16's are constantly being shown as having the control stick between the legs. In actuality, this aircraft's stick is on the right of the cockpit.

Revealing mistakes

During the 1st attack on the National Guard unit the 2 men firing their weapons on full automatic are obviously firing replicas as no empty shell casing are being ejected.
While in the armored vehicle, the drivers repeatedly turn the steering wheel one way, but the vehicle turns in the opposite direction.

Anachronisms

The F4U Corsair pilot claimed to have been captured during the ("real") Battle of Los Angeles. This occurred on February 24-25, 1942. However, the F4U Corsair's earliest use was late in 1942, many months later.

Crew or equipment visible

(at around 48 mins) As the three men walk down a dirt bank, crew are seen in the bottom left of the screen.

Character error

The soldiers are firing at the alien probe in the car park from behind cars. When the camera pans around we can see that there is another vehicle in the way and there is no way they could hit it. Despite this they fire a few hundred rounds and the blocking vehicle does not have a scratch on it.
