THE GREAT CHASE is a typical 'martial world' effort from Taiwan. It has a big cast of rival fighters and martial arts experts but a simple plot and more than a little repetition during the running time. Various court officials, explorers, and wandering swordsmen are caught up in a plot of treachery, deceit and heroism. The usual gamut of tropes, then. Ivy Ling Po has a decent role here but if you're looking for Lo Lieh action you'll be disappointed, because he only appears in a very small 'guest villain' role. The fight scenes are unfortunately routine and there's very little to make this stand out from the crowd.
